Just after your thoughts on buying a Lexus isf vs the Audi rs4?

The Lexus is slightly cheaper to buy and run from what I can see but does any one have any info on the reliability of both of these?

I know the Audi has the DRC fault on the dampers but I can't really find any major problems on the isf??

If any one owns the Lexus then please chime in as they are quite rare and not too much info on these knocking about.

Thanks for any replys

2 year unlimited mileage warranty for £1300 will waive any big bills that may or may not occur.

1300 quid looks OK for two years cover but I'm not sure if you could add that to a Lexus approved used car? You get 1 year warranty with that anyway but if you can add an extra two years then I would look into that!!!!

Thanks for the info.

If you're looking at those two, you may as well consider the E90 M3 (saloon), the MB C63 and the Jag XF-R too.

Nice dilemma to have, and really not a bad choice among them...

although the IS-F is probably the least overtly 'sporty' one there

Taken from the website...

"If you bought an Approved Pre-Owned vehicle and your car is approaching the end of its current warranty, you can renew your warranty cover now and continue to extend it until your vehicle is seven years old."

Must say, thats fantastic value !!

Out of interest I just ran some quotes on a 2010 XFR and the warranty costs £839 regardless of mileage..

I had one for 18 months, sadly no longer have it, but would have another in a heartbeat.

Fabulous performance (the noise cloud9), utterly reliable, all the kit you could ever need, and wondrous service from dealers.

There's been a few threads over the years;

Generally all very positive towards the IS-F...

It's strange but I find the IS-F the most appealing partly because of this.

An observation, not a criticism dude thumbup

I don't think there's a bad one among them.

Lexus for me. Just has that air of something different about it and the air surrounding is pure reliability. Yes they depreciate but so does any V8 nowadays.

Thanks for reply's guys.

As stated above I have looked at the XFR and c63 too. The jag is nice but my dad has a XF which is nice but I would feel like I'm copying him or trying to go one up with an XFR?

The c63 is awesome but I don't like the 15-17mpg they do. The Audi and isf will do low 20's combined and close to 30mpg on a motorway cruise.

I want to love the isf as I have done research and not far off all reviews from owners are positive!

One benefit to me for the isf is the auto gearbox which would make the car a good cruiser imho.

Any more comments very welcome guys.

Ps. I have read a poll on detailingworld.com for rs4 vs. Isf and not far off all comments were Audi over Lexus.
I'm I missing something here??

Perhaps the Audi is easier to polish?

I'd drive both as they're quite different cars. The RS4 can have some very large bills regarding servicing and failing items so have a look at the things that aren't badged Audi or Lexus like the tyres, brakes, servicing, warranty, insurance etc. If running costs mean nothing then I'd probably go for the RS4 because of the all weather approach and the fact it can be an Avant. But, sane hat on, for a total package to run worry free I'd take the Lexus.

Have you driven either yet?

Yes - go and buy the car YOU want, don't worry about what other people like or dislike.

The difference in fuel will be marginal; we're talking a few hundred quid a year. I have an RS 4 and you honestly won't get 30mpg on a cruise, and in town it'll probably be 14 mpg.

The sound of the V8 at low revs (and high, of course) is sublime though, it almost sounds supercharged.

I see about four RS4s a week. I see an IS-F about once every three months.

I think they're misunderstood. OP, you've already realised you may be on to something here. Go with your gut feel and buy the Lexus and learn to get the best out of it. When you do, you'll not be thinking about an RS4.

Shock horror, a poll on a site mostly worried about the cosmetic side of enjoying cars went for the VAG product. rofl

If you could slam an ISF on Bentley wheels with RS6 seats and then take photos as you washed it every day then the detailers might take more notice.
I personally would have the ISF, but then i don't much like the RS4 saloon i prefer the Wagon, and if i was going for an estate it would be the C63 Merc.
Drive both, decide then.

Great post. I went through this same choice.

Coming from a remapped 335d m sport the e90 M3 is gutless unless you are ringing its neck.
The C63 has an amazing sound but I felt the interior was cheap and nasty, also they are very common.
Jag XFR depreciates too quickly but is an interesting choice

The Lexus was rare, misunderstood and actually ticks almost all of the boxes. Whilst it isnt a ZF 8 speed, the gearbox shifts as quickly and from a spec sheet seems to be nigh on identical. In sports mode and manual it is a very very fast car. Previous vehicles include a 600hp R32 GTR and of course the remapped 335d which is no slouch.

biggest disappointment for me was that it has only 4 seats. Buy and you wont regret.

dealer only emailed me last week offering me one of the last to be ever made at 13k off list price!
