Thanks

Lexus and diesel don't really go together . You might as well buy a mondeo

Turbo leaks oil from the return pipe.

DPNR (DPF) love to block up

EGR valves get stuck open

Oil consumption can get high which generally leads to a new engine (extended warranty on this though)

Alloy wheels prone to corrosion

Rear calipers seize on the sliders (again can be covered by Lexus if it's outside it's warranty)

Front seats squeak on the runners

My dad currently owns one, had it from new, 220D 56 plate, 130k miles never missed a beat and is built like a tank, interior is such a nice place to be, better than the 3 series and C Class and the level of equipment you get as standard is brilliant, leather, heated and ventilated seats etc.... Only issue is the wheel corrosion, currently on its third set of wheels as Lexus replaced them under warranty and on the second occasion free of charge even though the cars warranty had ended.

They represent great value for money, try and seek out a car with the communication pack which includes the Sat Nav, Parking Camera and the superb Mark Levinson stereo, 300 Watt and it is superb.

thanks chaps.

yes, i'd want leather, the good stereo and the heated/ventilated seats

if anyone knows of a good one post it up on here.

130k mile ones can be had for £4k ish now so they are a bargain imho, but i'd like one with more 'sensible' miles.

cheers

Had a few issues with my wife's 220D. DPF blocked and car went onto limp home mode. Ended up needing both O2 sensors in the exhaust replaced along with the DPF. This was covered under warranty. Dealers are very good in our experience, however, we were advised to not drive economically to try and prevent the DPF going wrong again. One rear calliper has been replaced by Lexus under the extended warranty. Also had to have a new rear shock at 1st MOT as it was leaking. Again, it was replaced under warranty by Lexus.

So, to recap, had most of the problems which lexusboy commented on, but the dealer has been very good.

Ok thanks. Ive noticed dealers dont charge much of a premium over private sellers so id buy from a lexus dealer i think as 12 months warranty and goodwill.m doeesnt sound too bad there peter. Can i ask if yours has full history and the mileage on it? Cheers

Also, if i buy from a dealer you get a years warranty, if something went wrong after 18 months would not want to know or is there some leeway on that?

Thanks

Our experience of Lexus dealers has been positive for example they replaced a set of corroded alloys for a new set, warrenty had lapsed but this was done free of charge. You cant fault their service IMO.

Be aware there's only a ski hatch rather than split fold seats ( ala Merc). Deal breaker for a lot of people.

Our car has a full dealer service history and is on about 42k. It's on a 57 plate and was 2nd hand from Lexus Coventry. Now it isn't driven economically, as told by Lexus, it gets about 35mpg in mainly stop/start traffic and about 43mpg on a long cruise.

If you can wait it out a bit, or up the budget, if not both, then aside from the smallish boot space, you could be looking at a GS450h rather than diesel.

There are issues with the 2.2 d engine having head gasket failures. It is the same lump that is in the T180 toyota cars.
We have had 3/4 of a new engine from toyota to repair this on our T180. I think the extension to warranty for this failure was 112 k miles or 7 years. I would imagine lexus at leat matches this.
They are particular about a full service history though.
