128ti if you like driving and engagement, M135i if you want all-weather ability. I suspect your other-half is just going for the one she prefers the look of. Just re-read your OP and looks like any performance car is wasted on her. Will you be driving it at all or much? If not, you're just better off getting a 118i and saving a shedload of cash.

I had the 128ti for 3 years (just gone back) and have had other hot hatches in the past (Golf R, S3 and a warm/lukewarm Polo GTI).

Having stopped leasing as a) there really aren't many deals about and b) I rarely use my car anymore, I'd say that other than the Golf R the 128ti was my favourite. The only thing that would stop me from FWD again is the conditions we get here in the UK, where arguably AWD is a little more suitable.

The inside was a great place to be in the BMW and after a while the red accents on the seats etc stopped bothering me entirely. I also deleted the exterior red accents, which was a must for me.

Obviously this will be dependant on circumstances but have you considered insurance costs? I did see a significant jump in insurance over the years, which could also be a factor. Not sure how much of a target the 135 is but I must admit I did feel more comfortable with the relatively incognito 128 on the driveway vs the R and S3.

If nothing else the front seats on the M135 are a lot better in my opinion. The extra grunt and traction is nice too.

Someone mentioned the 8 spead Aisin? They've fiddled with the maps on the latest ones and it's better than it was but it's still dim sometimes. In automode it can hesitate when rolling and you want more power. In paddle mode though it's fine. It's no ZF that's for sure

I’ve just ordered an M135i, stepping down from an 840i to save on crazy running costs. The 1 represents amazing value for money with the current deals and the post-2022 cars have a fair number of improvements from the launch model. I considered a 128ti but you save very little whilst missing out on xdrive and the nicer seats. I’ve had a few hot hatches back in the day including a Mk5 Golf GTI and F21 M135i so looking forward to been back in the fold smile

Out of interest, what deal did you get on the M135i? Cash or finance?

I've gone the finance route as the 3.9% APR is so low. Works out cheaper to put in a minimum deposit and leave cash in a savings account earning interest at 5%.

Thanks!

I was set on a cash purchase, but with the low APR and dealer contributions, a PCP might just be a smart move.

What monthlies? I've had a few offers under £400/mth for a std M135i with Pro Pack with minimal deposit.

That sounds pretty much the same as me. The struggle is finding cars in stock as the deposit contribution is only valid if you take delivery this month, but some of the cars won't be delivered in time for the deadline.

Be aware that they dropped Sun protection glass from the Pro pack so if you want that it has to be added. I'd recommend the Tech pack too.

I've just taken delivery of a 218i GranCoupe. Very very strong, willing engine. Try one.

Did the deal on it yesterday. Ended up going for PCP to get the double contribution, but will fully settle after a month.

M135i with Metallic, Pro Pack, Sun Protection glass, Panoramic roof, powered boot & reversing camera plus service pack. OTR RRP just under £47,000 plus £1,000 for the service pack.

£13,178 deposit, £149/mth, £20,436 GFV, 48mth deal. Even if we kept it on finance, total payable would only be just under £41,000, as it is, by settling after a month we'll save the c£3k interest.

Yeah, had to add separately but it's cheaper with the Pro Pack (c£200 IIRC).

Yeah, she's got a 118i now. It's not a bad lump, but she wanted something a bit more special. As did I wink

I did see this after I'd prematurely commented and read the whole thread!

I see you just say you went metallic - which colour? I love Misano Blue personally, but went Sapphire Black in the end, with the Pro Pack and 19s.

Black. I loved the Misano, but the FPO wanted black or black! She's also gone for the alternative 19s

I think I probably prefer those to mine - look easier to clean, anyway!

I hope you both enjoy the car.

Good choice!

I actually think the current 1 series looks really well. The M135i especially looks great.

Verde Mantis Uni is my favourite colour I’ve seen in the flesh when driving past the showroom.

Thanks - and that factor was instrumental as the only person that ever washes cars in our house.....(!)

Thanks - if Misano blue was deemed a little bright, I think Kermit Green would blow her top.

The colourway options on the current gen is definitely lacklustre, do seem to have improved it a little on the facelift though.
