Just wanted to run something by you all.

Due to buy my Mk8 R 20 years on Saturday. It’s white, has all options except winter pack and DCC, which isn’t a problem. It’s a pre registered 24 plate with 13 miles on it.

The price is £45,500, which is approximately £10k off list.

The fly in the ointment, the 8.5 R has been debued now, some parts of it look great, no driving differences though.

I estimate the same spec in an 8.5 to be priced between £55-60k.

I think I should stick with the option I have now, as the facelift parts aren’t really worth £10k. Thoughts?

Poor still from the dealers poor video smile

I’d stick with the Mk8 R 20 Years you already have on the way personally

It’s new tech, so has every chance of having glitches 2 months down the line.

The Black Edition looks great, but the new forged alloys look like they’re going to be an expensive option, too.

Stick with what you're buying.

I have a 22 plate R, all round driving, it is a marked improvement on my previous 7.5 manual (one of the golden ones that was 310bhp)

I do have niggles like having to switch off lane assist every feckin time and the constant software updates, oh and the turning circle which is massive compared to the 7.5

I still miss my manual gearbox, but less and less as the DSG does a great job in the whole - engine braking surprised me!

Is it worth another 10-15k - I doubt it.

You probably know this, but shares it's engine with the more powerful version of the Alpine...
So fine, it was for sale on Apr 4, and still is now.

I do like those, there must be a reason they weren’t big sellers, though?

The trophy came with a smaller lightweight lithium battery, if left for a few days they struggle to start which then causes all sorts of error codes and warnings to pop up over time. Some owners were left stranded at airports etc.

Plus in the current market it's very competitive if you want a 270+bhp hot hatch, it seems Peugeot and Renault struggled to sell the Megane RS and 308 gti

Collected at lunchtime, driven home 50 miles from Newbury. Loving it, got to get my head round the all the tech surrounding the infotainment, though…

Top Tip, the button on the end of the indicator stalk brings up lane assist in your dash, click “set” on your steering wheel to cancel it.

Nice!

Love my Mk8 GTI Clubsport here, simply way better than my old Mk 7.5 GTI.

The lane assist is the least invasive I’ve come across.
