They've never been huge in any generation, but they're useful enough in terms of capacity for a do-everything car that still drives nicely.

Thanks for the above thoughts and suggestions.The R class is a bit mpv for us, and I am unsure on the Volvo but may investigate it further.

Timing chains .... its an engine out job, usually involves cams too. From what they have posted it seems the end bearing cam pulley end is not lubricated other than what gets thrown about and drips on it. But no dedicated oil feed as such. Partley down to how the oil pump operates in the name of economy and regulations. It seems they can carry out a software tweak to up the pressure.
