What about people buying a new Continental GT for a couple of hundred £k or whatever they cost. Are those people stupid?

Probably not. Despite the horrendous depreciation if that’s what you desire then fit your boots.

I think what he is trying to say is all purchases of SUVs with no decernable attributes apart from their colossal size and questionable brand status (which covers 95% of them IMHO) are made by stupid people. I think he has a point, and I sure Porsche knew this and made a smart move, it literally saved the company.

At the end of the day, the Cayenne above is a nice colour, cheap, in possession of a V8 and well screwed together.
Precisely this.

A good barge will often divide opinion. When shopping in the sub-£5k barge range there should always be some jeopardy included FOC!

2x Mercedes S600 for almost £5k. I reckon you could make negotiate down to under £5k.

1 with a "minor" fault, only 92k miles - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176245806879?_trkparms=...

or 146k miles - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/196261338469?_trkparms=...

In my experience with traders, mentioning one minor fault means expect that AND seven undisclosed major faults with warning lights that start to ping on one by one as the cleared codes start to flood the ECU again.

I don't disagree, but with these cars if they've not got reasonably specialist knowledge or access to someone with the same then an ignition fault will have been diagnosed as 2 x £1500+VAT coil packs and a £500 voltage transformer.

That is what it probably needs but you can get rebuilt packs for half that from the US and the guy apparently now has the ability to rebuild the voltage transformer.

I'd rather buy a cheap one of these knowing I had to change the ignition system rather than pay top whack for one hoping I won't when I probably will. Good news is the rebuilt ones appear to fix the design faults and last forever.

The rest of the car will just fail around you like all old Mercs though. At least with an S600 you're playing fault whack-a-mole with a 510bhp V12 rather than a 227bhp diesel.

My favourite bit is you read through all of that, then glance up to the top right, and the suggested text put there by Gumtree itself is, "Hi, is this item still available?"

I guess I could always send it in about 40 minutes' time. Possibly offer him a special edition Gremlin, slight water damage.

Better trying to fix the first 5.5litre V12 as it’s ULEZ compliant.

It's a K-reg. So 1971 to 1972. That would make it 52 or 53 years old... why does he think it's 48 years old.. that's as much as 5 years out. Is that how long it has been for sale?

Hi John

I am mildly interested in the car, is it still available? I am mailing you at 0630 hrs, cos I work nights and am in bed by 0900 hrs. Sorry.

I have always wanted one of these, but was ideally looking for a gold one like what was in/on the Sweeney. Are you open to offers (I am going to have to factor in a respray) ? I'm thinking £5k cash or I can throw in what's left of my Allegro in part ex (it's lime green, you might like it)

If you are happy to proceed-unfortunately I WILL need some (lots) of further DETAILED images. Have you got any from underneath? Also, and this would be a deal breaker, has it got the Ford stamp on all the indicators lenses? Also what are the tyres like ? premium brand. Much tread?

You also have NOT mentioned service history, has much been done at the main dealer? If not, no biggie but I would then only be able to offer circa £2.5k for it as I like my cars tip top, with dealer stamps all over them, hope you understand.

Does it come with a warranty?

I'll give you a call at 5am tomorrow if that's alright?

it seems a fairly honest advert. S211 500 - not perfect. Gravel drive in Bucks. Currently £2,250

As long as the gearbox is functioning as it ought to, this looks a bargain.

Blimey that is cheap. Has Xenons and parking sensors. No heated seats but certainly not a deal breaker. The D2 A8 is a hell of a car
Oh and that E500 above...lovely.

The Audi is 24 years old now. Quite remarkable how much of a step change there was in quality as we left the 90s. When I bought my BMW 635 it was a 16 year old car and looked like it came from another time completely. That Audi A8 could convince less car-interested types that it was a much younger car than it actually is if you gave it a bit of a clean. I don't think I'd be interested in owning it though.... just cannot imagine it not being full of knocks and clunks as it hobbles down the road.
