Speed traps on the way to LM

This year if you get caught speeding in France they are going to take your license and feed it to a dog (probably a poodle).
Next your car will be squeezed in a huge garlic crusher and finally you will be damned to hell and only be allowed to drive a 900CC diesel non turbo Renault 4 for the rest of your lives.
Since there are also loads of rumors about the speed traps in france I thought Id start them early

In reality its nothing like the rumors say but becareful anyway and remember to keep your speedtrap detector at home. These are illegal in france and will be destroyed if found.

just a quick question - but what if your speed detector is hard wired into the car....i can remove the actual handset but the socket stand and the laer detector will require pulling all the wiring out .....surely they must understand i am not going to trash my interior ..... nad if they decide to well i will probably get nicked ....
any ideas...or just remove everything ?? Including satellitel reciver on dash...

I completely removed the Geodosey cradle from the dash top on leaving Blighty, it's obvious what it is and Frog Plod aren't going to believe its sat on your bedside table 
they are going to think you've just whipped it out, and unpacking all your belongings by a French roadside just doesn't appeal to me

If it ever came to that I would just not speed by not going. The French are a bit more pragmatic than Brunstrom. Sure a few people will get done and there are some horror stories which are mostly just stories. They will not kill the goose that laid the golden egg though. It takes a fully psychopathic English sandalist to do that.

top post. I agree, the day I can't give it the full welly through France will be the day I wont be arsed to go and will have a piss up at a BBQ in the UK for a weekend instead. The mental journey is half the fun of LM.

Just got back after a couple of weeks working on the house in France (Near Limoges). For a change, I went via Le Mans both ways (round trip of 1300 miles door to door). Not one fixed camera on route - as usual. There is a french site that shows all camera positions, fixed and potential mobiles, that anyone going to France may be interested in.

On a secondary issue, the French are now VERY anti drink driving, and there are enormous fines and imprisonment terms. Fines begin in excess of 0.5 - over 0.8 and you will be in BIG trouble. The gendarmerie are cracking down heavily throughout France, and at an event like Le Mans, they will be looking carefully. You have been warned!

RADAR DETECTOR BAN
If you use a radar detector to avoid speed cameras, leave it at home if you visit France. Anyone caught with the device will be banned from driving and have it confiscated on the spot.
According to wine and travel website, winedrive.com, some British drivers are using the devices as UK style speed cameras spread across the Channel. Winedrive's Maurice Carroll, warns: "If you are caught with a radar detector, you will be banned from driving in France for up to three years and the device will be confiscated. Unless there is another driver in the car, you will turned round at your port of entry and put back on the boat.
"If you are stopped anywhere in metropolitan France, you will have to get your motoring organisation to repatriate your car or get someone from England to collect it. Ports and airports are notified if a visiting driver is banned and anyone who continues to drive can expect severe consequences, with a possible prison sentence."
Unlike the UK, many French speed cameras are hidden behind signs and bridges, the authorities openly admitting they are used as a means of raising revenue to cover the cost of road safety initiatives.
