Can anybody please explain how you purchase tram tickets from the machines at the tram stops and validate them? I tried to figure it out at the Classic last year and failed totally....

I think you buy the ticket, board the tram and pop the ticket into the wee ticket reader by the doors to validate it, presumably it beeps or something.

Or if you're a bit merry you buy a group ticket for eight people, board the tram, pop the ticket in a couple of times, get bored and start singing.

Either way is fine.

I'm sure one of the locals will jump in at some point but from memory you use the rotating knob on the machine on the platform to select the type of ticket, then again to select the number of tickets (think that's the bit confuses most people).

You validate tickets in one of the machines actually on the tram - again, from memory.
