OK let's have a thread for the best BBQ recipes.

Last time we took a charcoal BBQ but this time I think I'll just take the gas one. Planning to do all meals on the thing.

Got any good cheap and cheerful recipes suitable for camping with food that can be bought locally?

We're doing a 'Friday Night is Curry Night' meal on the bbq this year but I'll eat my socks before I eat curry out of a can. Much planning has gone into this so if you smell wafts of Madras drifting across Houx you know where it'll be coming from ! Just the job as the beer munchies kick in biggrin

Previous exploits have included fresh sardines, a rib of beef and a whole chicken (not necessarily together !!)

ha ha ha....we've decided to make thusday night curry night lick. I'm making a madras and roganjosh and freezing them before our journey down, in the vain hope that a) we remember we have them b) it hasn't gone all penicillin on us before we remember.

edited to answer op: we always buy steak from carrefour. Last year that did us for the whole weekend eek. This year we're broadening our horizons with the above and taking some spices to coat the steak in. You know, just for a change.

Rib eye steak for me chaps, garlic mushrooms, chilli pimento pepper salad, potato red onion and water cress side.

and beer

bit more beer

and maybe and a beer, or two

If you want a good rib eye steak, go for one with lots of speckles of fat in the meat, all burns out on the BBQ and tastes amazing.

Preparing beforehand is the way to go. Heating on a gas grill is great. Any food that requires only 1 pot is good. biggrin Oh, you can always marinate some ribs and cook them on the gas grill in a nice cast iron pot.

Don't forget to serve your meat with a bit of Pasta. The tricolore stuff is best as the red and green count as 2 of your 5 a day.lick

And we wonder why the French laugh at our diet...

One assumes said curry in a tin is bought from the UK - cos you aint gonna find it in Carrefour..

My fave was the guys who 'discovered' Tesco long-life sliced bread to go with the baked beans they had brought with them. None of that French stuff for them...

I go surfin' every summer or so in Mimizan. There is a small take-away place called 'The French Cock' (seriously) and the offer a "pain Americain"... which constitues of a baguette filled with fries and a few burgers. Awesome.

Camembert baked in the box until it's warm and runny and then into a baguette with some bacon .... add a big mug of tea (or a couple of cold beers) and that's your breakfast sorted.

Obviously you need to take proper bacon from here ....

Super-U in Arnage sells big bags of scallops. Just pop them into a foil tray with a bit of garlic butter while you down a couple more beers, and watch your neighbours salivating.

In Carrefour make sure you read the labels and gem up on what 'horse' is in French. Oh how we laughed when we clicked on what meat we had on the BBQ when after an hour it was still bleeding and tough as leather!
