Help!
Just had the Devon and Cornwall mob on the phone saying that they are thinking of booking on the Channel Tunnel instead of Portsmouth because of cost. Jeez that's a long way round for us here in the South West

Apparently P&O and Brittany are quoting the same price, £532

Thats travel on the early ferry on Wednesday, return either Monday PM or Friday PM (some are having a relaxing break on the Brittany coast to unwind ).
Cherbourg versus St Malo seems to make no real difference to the price. At least two people have already tried to find better deals and failed.

Last year I booked late and paid top whack, £300. D&C paid about only about £180!

I know there is another ferry prices thread and it's thinking that £300 is expensive. What are we doing wrong ?

At the moment the best I can find is......
Portsmouth - Cherbourg
Early Thursday morning on the Fastcraft
Coming back midday Monday
£284 from P&O, I thought that was steep when the same crossing last year cost us £172

We were dead set on going down on Wedneday though...

Mind you, at the prices we are being quoted Thursday is sounding quite attractive

As soon as your trip exceeds 120 hours (5 days) you are in the two week cost band.

Bring the trip down to under 120 hours and watch the price come down.

East Sussex are going Newhaven-Dieppe on the Seacat
@ 0730 on Thursday and back 1630 on the Monday (so
105 hours)for £129 return.

By arriving on the Thursday you still see some qualifying.

Good luck.

That's looking better
We are going to check that site out right now....

Apparently D&C got their quotes from ferrysavers.com and P&O!

Sounds worth a look, do you have a link, or a ferry company name

Cheers Simon, I didn't know that juicy snippet of information

Ditto with raceboy on the request for a few more ferry ticketing contacts! The timing of the information will be about perfect for us

The ferry from Newhaven is the HoverSpeed SeaCat (2 1/4 hours crossing time).

It has a crossing at 1400 (~) on the Wednesday and one at 0730 on the Thursday, You can catch either, come back Monday p.m. and still remain within the 5 day band.

see www.hoverspeed.com.

If you have a group (10 cars or more - I think). Call 0870 460 7254 and ask for Caroline. She is very helpful.

Happy hunting.

Or if you want to go down earlier, why not get a cheap hotel near the chunnel or Dover, and leave early Wednesday morning?

We're paying £120 for a SeaCat crossing over the 5 day limit so we get to see both quallies.

We could all meet up for a the night before too

Bloody hellfire!
We are paying a lot less than that for the Portsmouth Seacat for the same crossings (well, coming back Monday evening, but that bits open anyway).

Is that price per car or person?

Dusty never got around to answering your email properly, but have decided to go in Houx again with the TVRCC. If however you want to make a little on your block booking for the ferry I'll take you up on that, I can also come to 'breakfast as well into the bargain , let me know.

My understanding was _very_ early on Thursday morning (< 6a.m rings a bell?), though I'm sure Adam will confirm.

Any chance of any less criptic clues,
Does any one know of a Portsmouth/Poole Crossing to the Cherbourg/Caen aera for less than £284 per car, 2 people sharing, idealy going early Thursday morning, and coming back Monday afternoon
If anyones got a group booking open then I'd be happy to join you, and maybe a few more of our group
