Getting to, staying at and enjoying Le Mans 2004

Can anyone tell me (and probably other people) how to book tickets for a ferry to go to and from Le Mans, book tickets to camp at Le Mans, also where to eat if you get there early. So a complete guide i could say i suppose of Le Mans. Hopefully how to book online please. Thanks

Well,

There is no ferry directly to Le Mans so here is what I would do

We usually go Dover-Calais on the Seacat first thing Thursday AM and aim to arrive at Le Mans for around 6PM.

I book in January and it costs around £100 for a 5 day return ticket. Book either at www.hoverspeed.com or www.ferryoffers.co.uk

For your campsite tickets, you will probably struggle to get these now from the main official source which is the ACO. You could try emailing them - [e-mail]. Best sites generally are Houx, Houx Annnexe and Bleu

If you can't get any from ACO, and if you want to risk it so close to the race, try Ebay or if you want to guarantee tickets and don't mind paying over the odds, try someone like Just Tickets. www.justtickets.co.uk

As to eating you should really take (or buy out there at one of the many supermarkets) BBQs and loads of meat, beer etc. That's what everyone else does.

For the camping tickets, www.justtickets.co.uk seems to not have the prices or tickets yet. We're trying to book as soon as possible. I haven't been able to find anyone with the prices and tickets ready to sell online, it has to be online for us. Any info on that?

Just tickets certainly had some for sale in July when we bought ours. Get your camping permit from them too and go direct to the ferry company for crossings.

Portsmouth - Cherbourg takes about 3hours on the sea cat and is a 4 hr drive from Cherbourg to Le Mans. A good drive too.

As I understand it, the tickets haven't officially gone on sale yet, which is why you can't find them.

I reserved with Just Tickets in July or August, and their allotment of camping spots was nearly exhausted - the only room they had left was in Bleu. I'm sure there are no more spots left with them by now for any campsite. They told me that the tickets would go on sale in October/November, and they would advise me when they were available and what the cost would be.

Anyway, you are probably having difficulty finding places to reserve on-line because they aren't technically on sale yet and the various organizations are just taking reservations against their allotted spaces. If you want to be able to specify which camping site and which grandstand seat you want, you are really far too late.

The tickets tend to get booked up early, and then as people cancel for whatever reason become available in small numbers, with a flurry right before the event. Tickets are sometimes advertised here on PH or on ebay. It shouldn't be a problem to find what you are looking for, but I wouldn't expect to find it at an on-line company...

You may want to contact the Le Mans tourist office. They have a supply of tickets, although can't give details of prices yet as the ACO haven't issued them. The advantage of the tourist office is that they just charge the face value of the ticket!
