Lift To Le Mans? Update!!!

For those of you that may be interested, I managed to scrounge a lift from Ellroy in his Tuscan. He picked me up on route, (had a couple more TVR's along with us, sadly we lost one before we left the UK, but as the saying goes "that's another story!") we caught an early morning ferry from Dover to Calais on the Wednesday morning and took a resonably sensible drive to Le Mans. (the odd bit of playing whilst watching out for the local Plod!!)

I managed to hook up with the guys from Team Essex and as expected, I was thrown in at the deep end!! My main Task was to take the wheels and used tyres from the back of the pit garage, around to the guys at Dunlop and then bring back the wheels, mounted with fresh rubber. It sounds fairly easy and to be fair, on the Wednesday and Thursday qualifying sessions it was straight forward. However, the race did not quite go to plan and several unexpected punctures, a spin and an engine problem (electrical), combined with the rain meant that I had a busy night. I had a fantastic time (hard work though!) and was really happy for Team Essex to take P2 in the LMP2 class (a bit of luck and we could have won!). The Danish lads were completely mental, but made me feel part of the team from the moment I got there.

There were 4 sets of eyes looking at 4 different lap tops all showing the same screen. Each peson looking for potential problems. The guys in the pits new a tyre was going down long before the driver did!!

It was very interesting!
