Was it me or was this year's Radio Le Mans coverage a huge (and I cant enforsise the word HUGE, enough) dissapointment. What was Hiendoff and co doing. Monkeys could have put together a more indepth, excitting and funny Radio Show. Everyday was just full of highlights from the previous day. No Big Boys Breakfast and slack race coverage.
Can someone explain why it has taken such a huge step backwards, it was almost like they didn't want to be there.

I'm with you on that one. For the a couple of hours lead up to the start, they were replaying qualifying from Thursday eve! The OP is quite correct.
Although it is still vastly better than the days of seeking out a loud speaker and hanging around for the hourly garbled english announcement or hunting down a seller of the over night newspaper (do they still do this?), they did seem to be offering a minimal effort.
One of our team commented that american motor homes received more mentions than aston martin! And please please please, can they get another record apart from careless whisper to play on Friday?

It wasn't the best but I still think they do a hell of a job for us, without them I'd struggle to know whats going on.
If you can't hear it, invest in a Peltor headset. I bought mine last year and its proven invaluable as it has a built in FM radio. Not only that but it saves me going deaf from the Corvette's etc

I have to agree with the OP. Last year when we left and had to sit in that MASSIVE queue to get out of BSJ they were talking and it was very funny and they had peoples views about the race and the traffic. This year they just played highlights from the race.
They do a great job, but it didnt seem as good this year.

The quality of commentary on the practice and race was first rate as ever, but there did seem to be no other "radio show" content for the rest of the time, just some very old records being played. There was coverage of the support race this year which I think they've not done before.

But not enough race information, there was a big off and saftey car,turned up the radio and nothing, just the odd comment "you can tell were not racing" as they just chatted to someone,
Would have neen ideal time to update people on the running order or examine what happened

Following the racing would be impossible without radio LM so I'd say it was still a job well done. Maybe previous years were better but I think that they were heavily reliant on the TV screens to see what was happening and I found them to be pretty disappointing this year.... Yes, they did go on through the night (last time I went in 2006 I'm sure they stopped broadcasting pic's in the small hours) but didn't seem to pay enough attention to the GT's for my liking.
I love radio Le Mans, it's not perfect but they do it on a shoestring. It's things like mentioning the motorhomes and Evo that pays for it. It's not an official ACO service. The race commentary is superb, and they always seemed to have roving reporters in the pits getting the inside info. John is THE voice of Le Mans for me. Bob Constanduros, in the pits, is a new (to me) familiar voice who knows his onions (He's the fellow who conducts the official F1 post race interview). Yes, some bits are a touch amateur, but I reckon that adds to the charm. With regard to the broadcasts on other days, again I'm sure it purely comes down to them doing what they can with the money they have. If they could afford a bigger variety of music, or to produce more programming, I'm sure they would.
By comparison, the Eurosport coverage was poor. The commentators wouldn't shut up waffling crap, even they didn't know what channel they were on and when, and they had no link with the pit lane reporters. The adverts were more frequent, and longer, than those on RLM
RLM always gets a bit of criticism every year on various forums and it must really wind John Hindhaugh and the rest of the RLM Team up. He popped up on the Club Arnage forum one year to put his point across. They are always looking for constructive criticism but it's worth noting that they don't have a lot of resources to work with and put a lot of hard work in.
I for one, wouldn't want it to be some slick souless corporate production. As it is, it feels like a familiar bunch of mates calling the action.
