Thanks to The Morons at Arnage Roundabout

Well done to the idiots that thought it was funny to pour pints of beer into any open car that went past on friday. I understand that people want to have a laugh and maybe the odd squirt ftom a water pistol is fine. My car and the other cars in my convoy had pints of beer and pints of water poured over us and into the cars as we drove past, one of the cars now has electical issues as it got into the dashboard.
The morons that do that have no respect for the cars, and bring down the whole event.
So next year our convoy of cars will be avoiding Arnage, and now I know why each year there seem to be fewer and fewer nice cars in Arnage.

Try posting this in the Danish car forums! Really sad to see. I avoided the straight. Walked past it on Friday and there was lots of agro. and mob rule.The morons that do that have no respect for the cars, and bring down the whole event.

I have to say I share the sentiment of the OP.
I have been to Le Mans several times, but recently it seems to have descended into a 'Stag Weekend mentality' for most. It now seems less and less about the cars and the motorsport and more about the drinking above all else.
I am convinced the majority of those who now attend do so not for the racing but for the opportunity to experience getting drunk in another country. Arnage used to be the about cars and a shared appreciation of so many diverse and interesting vehicles in one place (with a few beers thrown in for good measure). Now it seems to be about recreating the ambience of Blackpool sea front in rural France.
What used to be fun, now isn't.
This year I went to Nurburgring 24hrs, it has a completely diffrent atmosphere, probably even more 'beer fuelled' but a lot less agressive.
The Le Mans Classic is the new Le Mans.

Bang on the money. I hope these muppets stick to Le Mans. We did the ring this year instead and it was rubbish honest. I must admit that when i drove through both Arnage, and down by Maison Blanche i was a bit intimidated with it being my first Le Mans visit.

I think if they find it amusing throwing beer into cars and shooting them with water pistols, the drivers of the cars should be allowed to find it amusing shooting them in the face with live ammunition. That would certainly take the smile of their face

In all seriousness though, I can't understand how people can get away with this when Le Mans is filled with car enthusiasts. I mean lets face it, like everything, it is only a small minority of dick heads that ruin it. So what are the other people doing? Just standing there letting these people vandalize cars? But then I suppose any effort made in stopping them would just end in violence and a face-full of mace (and probably the dhead getting away).
I'd love to attend the 'ring 24hour. Might put that on the list for next year.

Le Mans was always the best weekend of the year and as soon as I got back I couldnt wait to go again. However, having watched the behaviour gradually descend to thuggery and agression, I decided last year I would give it a miss this time around for the first year in about 8 or so. Instead I too did the Nurburgring 24Hrs and although it wasnt the same in some respects, I didnt miss the le mans hooliganism. I like to party hard and have a laugh, but it was over the mark last year and sadly it sound like this year was little different.
To be honest, I also used to enjoy the exotica that was so prevalent down LM, whereas now theres a selection of chavved up Escorts, Saxos with the odd nice car only occasionally. The ferry decks used to look like a showroom of Porkers, Fezzas, Lotus and TVR 4 -5 years ago!

Understand the sentiment, but I really don't want to see them at Le Mans at all. Because of them I haven't been for two years and hate having my love of the race curtailed, but after having my Exige soaked throughout the inside with Lord-knows-what, I'm not prepared to give these morons another opportunity.As many have said, having a few beers and a good time is one thing, this kind of wanton vandalism is totally unacceptable.
Someone on here mentioned that there seemed to be a big change for the worse from 2004 onwards - funnily-enough, the Le Mans dates coincided with Euro 2004 and the France-England match on Sunday 13 June (which the latter lost, I recall...)

The Ring 24Hrs is very different to LM and because the Ring is so huge you do lose the sense of closeness that LM provides, not least because everyone camps with the village being central to everyone. The Ring offers a totally different experience, but equally fantastic. And at least the locals villages dont triple their prices for that particular weekend! 9 euros 50 for 5 half litre 5% beers straight from the fridge - suit you sir.

Yep - same here actually. A few of us watched it round at my gaff - Eurosport combined with Radio Le Mans, BBQ and lots of beer! Not the same as the real thing but a distint lack of chavs!I really enjoyed it on the TV...
Quite glad to hear that Houx roundabout was closed to be honest as it's been getting closer to an accident every year since we've been going. It used to be some quite smart machinery being driven very well, and lots of daftness. Last year I over heard a conversation which revolved around 'finishing the beers off then going back to the campsite and getting a few more pills down our necks' I mean what the hell has that got to do with motorsport?
Can anyone confirm the brawl in Arnarge on the Friday? I think the live ammo idea is a winner!
