Just wondering if anyone will be taking walkie-talkies this year if so our group will be useing channel 6.30 so tune in

We're hoping to get some off ebay, ideally some from the US as they have much better range, although are technically ilegal in the UK! Either way, we'll be on the air!

I'm on the look out for some decent walkie talkies, clear, long range, good battery life.
Where can i find some like this, preferably on the net but if they have them in a certain shop that is fine, i just don't know what to look for, and don't want to get ripped off by some salesman selling me radioactive do it all radios or something.

I'll be taking my Motorola XTR4446's. They're well proven and work really well.

I would go for something like this

5 watts so 10 times the power of uk ones and you can programme them to work with PMR frequencies(446mhz) which is what the UK uses. if you get the american ones(FMR frequencies) they will not work with UK frequencies so just be careful on what you buy

It is steep but they do come from China and there is insurance on it too. I have looked at it as a total cost £92 for 2 x 5 watt radios is not bad and if they are like the ones i got they work great much better than the 0.5 watt ones we get here of course IMHO

We had the same trouble with the traffic,but we found out that channel 6.30 worked the best

What about organizing a fixed channel and sub channel for police sightings? My walkie talkie is able to monitor a second channel, as can many others.....

I've got a pair of Motorola T5422's and a pair of Cobra Microtalk somethings. All are fine but the Cobra's do seem to perform better.

I bought some Motorola ones from Target in the states when I was there last week just so we could have car to car chats on the way down (breaker breaker, what's you six, smokey on the bridge etc ).

I wasn't aware of any problems with them being illegal or not supported here but hopefully they'll work OK, they only cost me £20 so not too bothered.

Heh, glad I'm not the only one who's gonna be wandering around going "Ten-four, Charlie Tango, Roger Roger" (who's this Roger anyway and why does everyone want to roger him?!).

Also using PMR446 walkies so some of you may be unlucky enough to hear my drunken ramblings over the airwaves.
