Le Mans 24 Hour Race 2008

Gentlemen and ladies,

Le Mans roadtrip for 2008

I suspect that many of you will either have gone or watched the Le Mans 24 hours race on the TV last month. Take it from me, it was excellent. If you only see one motor race in your life, make it this race.

For some mad reason, I am now organising the trip to next years event. If there is anyone out there who would like to join the posse please let me know.

Full details, travelling schedule, costs, things you need, facts and figures and just about anything else will be worked out in the next month or so, but a rough indication as to whether anyone would be interested in joining the posse would be gratefully received. Its usually leave the UK on the Wednesday (stupid o'clock) and return on the Sunday night. I can arrange the stops, ferries, tickets, camping spaces, just about everything. Next years dates are not out yet, but it likely to be the weekend of 14/15 June 2008. Kiddies are of course always welcome.

I personally will be travelling in a 1973 VW Camper so your limited to 65 mph okay! Any other camper types out there? They tell me link the excitement of Le Mans with the fun of a 5 day camper trip and the excitements all there.

As I said, all details to be provided once I get an idea of numbers etc.

Hi all, joined this site for just this...help with planning le Mans 2008.
watched most of this years event on motors tv and was hooked, told a mate i work with that i've love to go next year...he said the same...so we're going!

we'll be setting off (from Lincoln) thursday evening and comming back monday daytime.
probably going down in the company car unless i win the lottery before then inwhich case a Ford GT....in my dreams!

also will be camping to keep things cheap and save more money for beer.

There is lots of info on here, your best bet is to trawl through the old "how do I" threads over the Winter.

You might want to reconsider travelling out Thursday evening, depending how you travel you won't get to the circuit until Friday afternoon/evening, you won't have time to get to the driver's parade and everything really is well underway by then and it will be getting tricky to drive around the place. Leaving Wednesday evening would give you a much better "Le Mans experience".

Writing this on the Monday morning, I thought I'd reassure you that the weather here at Le Mans is as fine as you would expect. Two photos from the Le Mans story yesterday to prove it! Oh, and it was a thumping 14C too!



I do have a few in the dry which I will post when I have time!

We were at Silverstone yesterday for the Grand Prix and being so used to the crappy weather we didn't take any suncream!!!! Big mistake!! Was lovely weather and made us miss Le Sarthe, nothing else compares for us!!

Although the heavy rain and cold winds of this year, regardless of what some may say didn't spoil the race but did ruin the show around it really, nice walks down to Arnage for lunch etc.

Me too! When I re-packed the LM bag for Silverstone on Wednesday night I threw the suncream out thinking "no blooming need for that" How wonderfully wrong I was!

David, the ACO at Le Mans will release tickets for the grandstands, campsites, entrance and just about everything else all in their own sweet time. If you go to their web site (www.lemans.org/ticket)they will send you a Order form. Fill it in and wait. Alternatively just turn up on the Wednesday before and get any tickets you need as there is never a problem. The only proviso with that is the campsites tend to get booked and leaving the good ones till the last minute is a bit risky. You can ring the ACO up on [phone] or email them on [e-mail]

Hope that helps. Personnally my order is in, but they dont have all the prices for all the tickets just yet. I'll give them another chase about November-ish.

The problem with some people, who appear to be clever, is the scientific fact that light travels faster than sound and therefore they appear to be bright until they open their mouth and speech emanates.

You should check your facts before oozing unpleasantness.

For those of us who have education, I thought I'd translate the following:-

This should read as follows:-

I assume you are either a teenage wannabe who can't actually get away from Mum and Dad and has to write such stupid things to make yourself seem more attractive to others; either that or you are just a cynical batchelor who never goes anywhere because you are too gay".

Piglet (feminine) is a respected member of this site, and if you wish to become one of the community it would serve you better to be a trifle (not a pudding) more respectful to those who are well known here and who have a long record of Le Mans attendances.

Perhaps you are of good heart and wish to put together a cavalcade of VW's or such, but this really isn't the way to broach the subject. This is a community of afficionados (look it up) who love motor racing but there are some who arrive and wish but to profit from knowing us. I believe you are not such a person, but I suggest you calm you attitude and try and explain yourself more succinctly. We are all ears to convoys, groups, and the general joie de vivre that makes Le Mans what it is, but this is NOT a commercial site.

Maybe her current silence is sufficient comment. Lowdrag states my view pretty well, and the view of a lot of others here I suspect.

Daniel, and anyone else who wants to post ill informed criticism of PHers on this site, should check up on the target PHer and their contribution to all things Le Mans etc. before mouthing off.

And as Lowdrag says, this is not a commercial site and I'm a bit surprised Daniel's first post got through without a comment from ED

Fistly, I have no such hero worship of people who spend their time jotting down replies to peoples thoughts on this or any other forums. I take every one as having a worthwhile statement to make unless their openning shot is to slag me off and make out that I'm trying to fleece people in some sort of commercial deal. I am sure Mrs Piglet is a wonderful person who glows with the milk of human kindness, my fondest regards to the lady.

Secondly, for your and anyone else who feels they have to put in their two penneth in a negative way, I am trying to put together a warm and lighthearted visit to Le Mans for next years event and posted my initial message asking whether anyone wanted to travel down together in a convoy. Just what is wrong with that? I would have thought considering this forum is supposed to be populated with Le Mans buffs, my posting would have been received in the intention it was meant and not derided and scorned as if I was suggesting we all vote Labour.

You are of course welcome to pay me a visit at next years event, please introduce yourself and perhaps we could share a bottle of beer. I hope that clears it all up.

May I suggest you're being a tad over sensitive.

1) this is NOT a commercial site. There is a section to advertise your business (if that is what you're doing).
2) I didn't see that Piglet slagged you off. She suggested you read the comments about Houx Annexe, which is pretty good advice if you're planning on taking Le Mans virgins there!

Many people on these forums have been posting for years, they have met each other and made some very good friends, it really is a very friendly, welcoming community, to which anyone is welcome. Perhaps if you had posted a couple of times on the forums BEFORE making your first post look like a business venture, you would have been better received. PH gets more than it's fair share of trolls and people who think the forums are big enough to be able to advertise their businesses free of charge and no-one will notice.

I fear your prickly attitude may have put anybody who was perhaps thinking of joining you off.

You'd do well to read some of the forums and get a feel for some of the posters around here before you go insulting anyone else that's been here a while.
