Can anyone recommend somewhere?? Ideally I'd like to be just before one of the chicanes, to see the cars reach full speed then brake hard.

Can this be done?? And does anyone have any maps??

Much appreciated

I've always found a great place to view the cars under hard braking is on the corner near the Tetre Rouge bar, where you have to exit the complex.

The cars come over a "lip" after the chicane, before slamming the breaks on, and hitting the right hander at the top of the straight.

Don't know about unoffical places - the locals are pretty wise to most routes I think. We did do a sortie into the woods along the straight one year, where we found a restaurant whose garden is at the trackside. Bloody expensive chicken and chips and you have to book a table, but unique. Impossible to find when drunk.

Don't underestimate the scale of Le Mans it's a bloody long way round.

I've got a very good detailed map of the circuit as a pdf file if you want to e-mail me.

Found a great spot last year on the armco barriers away from the frogs ect, where the cars come past a around 200+ bastard of a job to get there but it was worth it,going at night this time will plenty of beer!Where is it?I would like to tell you but i think a few people reading this thread might blow things wide open for me,1000 pistonheaders hanging over the barriers with beers might be too much,Sorry! But just use a bit of the "Boy Scout" stuff and i,m sure yuo will find a great spot.

I can recommend the Hundaniere restaurant at night. We went at about 4am, walked past the entrance, hopped over a gate and were right by the side of the track. The sight and sound of the cars flashing past a 200+ will stay with me for ever. You need to keep your voice down as the Gendarmes discourage this kind of thing with big sticks. I'll certainly be there again this year.
Anyone suggest any other unofficial spots?

We discovered it last year too. We'd been trying to find it for about 2 years previously, but never managed. I was disapointed at the view of the cars though. Did you jump over the fence at the end of the dirt road which would obvoiusly normally join the track? Between the cafe and some farm buildings? That was 8' high and the track directly behind it! I'm intrigued to know if we could have got a better view.

Alfa Dave..now why didn't I think of actually getting a detailed map before trying to find that restaurant!!? Could it be the biere blonde??

Spydaman - is Hundaniere restaurant on the infield or outfield? Have a look at that pdf map and give us a nearest point if you get the chance and I'll buy you a biere (or pass you one from the backpack/coolbag!)

Al (Maison Blanche with TVRCC - in a 911!!!)

The restaurant is on the out field. If you look on the map along the Mulsanne Straight just below the les Petites Ganieres you can see Hunaudieres. I don't remember it being that far down though. I can't see any roads going to it and seem to remember we had to drive up a farm track and walk a bit to get to it.
Even if you don't get to see anything because of the Gendarmes it's worth the trip just for the sound. If you got the CD off last years programme play it loud and shut your eyes and you could be there.

I didn't think it was there. See here www.club-arnage.com/getabout.htm for where it really is.
