Well after 5 years of beg/borrow/stealing tents for the annual Le Mans trip, I, (well racegirl) thinks it about time we bought one
So anyone got any good ideas for where to get a cheap, but watertight, easy to put up, small when packed, 3/4 person tent?

Argos! Mines was about £50 for a 3/4 man, and works a treat, even if it has to be up on like ten minutes, if/when the rain comes.

See you there....................

Preferably with en suite, fitted wardrobes, off road parking and seperate bedrooms (for the beer).

bought one just for le mans - with all that wine and beer I felt the need for separate bedrooms!
Bought one with two 2 person (*there thats PC*) rooms and central storage area with porch - £90 from Yeomans
Rather happy with it

Being male, colour is important to ensure beer/wine/puke stains don't show up too much

You missed the all important urine colour. Blokes do have a tendency to urinate up the side of it though the night!

Good point. That's why it's very important to get a fully waterproof one !

You should also think of colour coding the two rooms of the tent - sort of one blue, the other red. That way you can tell which one is which when slaughtered, and any vomiting to be done is kept strictly inside the living quarters and no where near the beer or wine!!!

I brought a loverly little two persons tent from a supermarket(Carrefour) in France a few years back.
Brought as was travelling down on my Motorbike and it takes so little room and wieghs sweet FA.
Cost about £25 and is waterproof, which was tried and tested at Le Mans 2001.
In the supermarkets in France they have loads of different sizes and they seem to be alot cheaper than ourside of the channel.

The Carrefoure in Le Mans itself has a pretty good camping and barbeque and everything else department. I usually take the minimum possible and buy cheap stuff when I get there.

It's also worth noting that when buying beer and wine there are often Carrefoure staff who are open to a bit of bartering to shift more beer. They ask what you're buying and try and offer some deals, which then allows for a bit of bartering (assuming you're buying several trolley's worth for a group). They then write the deal on a note for you to hand to the cashier to get the agreed price.

Buying in France would be ok by me (especially if it saved a few Euros ) but I think racegirl would be happier if everything was sorted before we left just in case there's a mad rush on French tents and we end up sleeping in the car

Not bothered about me, but can we get one for the car???

(This is not uncommon at le mans. In one of the campsites, there are these little stables. The Morgan owners pitch their tent outside, and park the cars under the shelter!!!

CostCo currently have a superb 4 or 6 man dome tent for around 120 quid, they also have Ez-up style shelters for similar money
