Any tips in booking a hotel (or Chateau!)?
I've been trying for 3 years and cannot get closer than a 45min drive as anything half decent is block booked years ahead.

I used some websites: logis de france, formula 1, novotel etc etc.

When these were full (friday night only- sunbday was fine) I chose a town (eg sable sur sarthe) and did a search on Google,

eg: "Hotel sable sur sarthe"

When the list came up, I phoned and asked... Warning; most expect you to pay for two nights during le mans weekedn. Unfair, but what can you do???

unfortunately, most of the sizeable "self-contained" accom gets taken up by teams etc within an easy drive...but if you look a bit South, you can usually find something.

I have a card (at home) of a place about 30 mins (nice drive) away in a restaurant that does fab set-courses etc. Discovered it 2 yrs ago with my old man - and there were a small selection of GB 911's there as well (and our Cerb !).

I'll dig out the details and post later tonight

....been there, done that & you must be insane . At late 30's (ahem) either you stay awake for 24 hrs (and freeze) or accept that life's rich tapestry requires you to plan your entertainment around a spot of lunch (fill in the appropriate meal). A decent nights sleep and shower the following morning.....then meals next day (hopefully followed by a quick "well done" and slap on the back for Mr Short , followed by a serious midnight thrash back to Calais ).

You excitable youths need to put everything into perspective

Unbelievable!! I spend a week on the net while the boyfriend disappears to St Anton on a boys' ski trip, looking for hotels, and the G*T has found a hotel 40 miles from Le Mans with pool, secure parking, fine restaurant and sauna with just 3 e-mails. Shall I bother next time? NO!!!!!!! Sometimes, a man's ego just needs boosting!!!!!
