I'm going, yippee!
Discussion
Well, I've just decided I wanted to go this year (for the first time), so I just faxed a form off to the TVRCC and now I'm going .
There's some good info around (why are there no FAQs here) but could anyone help me with a few questions ?
I'm camping in Maison Blanche - is the ground soft enough there to pitch a tent or should I bring some bricks (!) (do you think I should have found this out first :-) ) ?
I'm also assuming the car and the tent stay together - rather than park the car in a separate car park ?
Finally - will I be safe to bring the Tuscan (thinking about pikeys rather than it breaking down ) ?
Cheers,
Andy.

Never camped in MB but walked through it and it's as grassy as any of the other campsites so pitching a tent shouldn't be any harder than normal and you will be parked next to your tent
As for security, your'll be parked up with loads of other exotica so it would bad luck if your beast was touched but take the usual precautions anyway

Yaay, another LM virgin.
Just booked camping, grandstand and friday coach into the town with the TVRCC, will be camping at Maison Blache.
The TVRCC don't currently have entrance tickets but said that these can be bought on the day. Can anyone recommend any companies that are selling tickets in advance?
Any newbie advice greatly welcome!!

Wouldn't worry to much about entrance tickets, these are readily available at every entrance to the circuit from the chaps who check your tickets (well that was the case last year)
If you really want to get your mits on tickets before you go, try somewhere lick MRI, or Page & Moy, but you will be paying a premeum

If you don't want to get entrance tickets at the gate they are usually sold even cheaper at the main supermarket which everyone at the camping uses (Carrefour I think)
Regarding security I don't think you should be too concerned. It is rare that a campsite would be deserted and people soon work out who owns which car and look out for each other. Everyone there is a petrolhead and has suitable respect for other peoples cars. The only time there is a danger is on Monday morning as the campsite empties and the pikies move in like vultures on whatever's left behind, but as long as you're up and about they'll stay a good distance ( and they're very easily recognisable!).

btw how many people stay on until the Monday morning - does everyone leave after the race on Sunday ?
Cheers,
Andy.
I normally stay till the Monday to Sober up
but i would say prehaps a quater of people stop.the only annoying bit is as soon as the race has finished and people start leaving the pykies move in,but they arent as bad as the english ones and soon bugger off if u tell em.

Hi Steve, You have mail
Andy,
Hmm, just doing some homework on the ferries and I think Thursday evening is more likely (get a late afternoon sailing).
Is / has anyone gone via St Malo before (either from Portsmouth or Weymouth). Just trying to find a good route. Being a wuse, I'd rather spend more time on the ferry than hooning around France since I 'aint got a clue were I'm going!!!

Steve,
......or rather I haven't emailed you off line as the site is saying my email address is wrongin my profile, but it aint, so I will leave it for now, but have noted the fact that you are going.
I will ask, does your wife know what she is getting into by going, my wife won't go anywhere near the place and it has nothing to do with not liking cars as she does, it is just the......oh well I guess she will find out.
Chris.

have camped in MB in the past and the ground is fine for pitching tents unless its been hot for a number of days previously
suggest you get there by Thu at the latest as people tend to rope off large areas of the site in advance
don't worry about your car - I took an F355 and Diablo last year and had no problems

that's right Andy
there are no assigned plots - I used to take a few stakes and same tape to rope off a suitable (i.e. not too greedy!) plot to stop people pitching up where you would want to park your car (as you will no doubt be driving around during Friday)
I now camp at Houx as it has assigned pitches to prevent worrying about this

Im going too,"cyud, cyud, cyud!" (laughs like Roscoe P.Coltrane off of the Dukes of Hazzard!)
I'm a Virgin to the race too! (although i did pass through Le-mans town on the evening of the Parade des Pilotes last year on the way home from a touring trip round france)
Can't wait to meet up with so many petrolheads!
Am camping in maison Blanche and am intending to get there thursday eve.
