Hi all

Apologies if this is repeating anything that's already been said but I'm an infrequent Pistonheads visitor...

A group of us are getting the Wednesday overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Caen. Are there any stop-off points en route that people tend to congregate at on the Thursday morning, as it would be great to check out some of the cars etc?

Thanks

Neil

The overnight Caen ferry disembarks at about 7am so there's not much open at that time.

Going the back way (no Autoroute) will allow you to possibly stop at Falaise (plenty to choose from), Sees with a restaurant or two by the cathedral or further down Beaumont-sur-Sarthe where there is a cafe in the centre by the traffic lights with plenty of people passing by/stopping and a car park opposite.

I am on the same overnight ferry and plan to stop at Pegasus Bridge on the way down as it seem appropriate being so close to D-Day.

The bridge and the museum are always worth a visit. I've been there several times on the way down over the years. Have a coffee at Café Gondrée. I don't know if Madame Gondrée is still with us.....

Once you get there I can thoroughly recommend the Pegasus Bridge Cafe right next to where the bridge is. Nothing finer sitting outside with a cold beer in hand with maybe a Croque monsieur to accompany it watching the world go by and pondering that eventful night/day many years ago!

That was, I believe, the Café Gondrée - has it been renamed now?
