Hi

Has anyone done the helicopter flight during the race (Sat evening?), any thoughts on this and where we can book it from?

Hi, I've done it a couple of times with different friends who've done the trip me. I always booked it via my travel operator for ease (normally Saturday evening we've flown) but one year some of our group just booked when they arrived on the Friday and saved a few €s & were up at about the same time as us. You get almost 2 laps of the circuit and it properly shows you the magnitude of the Mulsanne Straight.

What I would say is that it's entirely random as to whether you will get out in the front seat next to the pilot but I've been lucky as it's obviously the best view. It's not a cheap matter but it was worth IMO. If you are crap at time keeping make sure a friend gets you there on time BTW as they operate rigidly to their flight list as it is very busy at times.

Thanks MrC.

Tickets etc already sorted so will see if the ticket agents can sell the flight by itself.

I took a flight during the COVID year, so with no people, we just rocked up at the airport and asked. We waited a while to fill the chopper as they needed 2 more people who eventually rocked up. Did 2 laps, flew passed the blimp, was an experience, not best for pictures, but well worth doing.

Whether you can bob in during the week and try to book one rather than pay the extra fee doing it through a UK company I'm not sure. But I assume they'll have more companies and more choppers when there are more people, unlike the crowdless year we flew.

Did it once and it's absolutely fantastic experience, I'd say worth every penny (actually it did not cost me anything as Nissan invited me at that time). Check this out https://www.heliberte.com/en/Sightseeing-tours/Bas...

Thanks - that’s who I booked with earlier this week, cheaper to go direct than via a UK ticket agent.

It's the surprise when they take off that gets most passengers! I've done it twice but the price has definitely gone up since a few years ago (like everything else)

I did this once a few years back, booked Saturday evening thought it would look spectacular at night, lights ablaze down the Mulsanne, fun fair brightly lit etc. Trouble was the circuit went into a full course caution just before we were due to fly. You can't change your slot so up we went, did our 2 laps & saw 2 safety car trains moving fairly slowly equidistant around the track interspersed with miles of empty circuit. Still, it was an experience, just a shame there was no racing.

I am taking my 16 year old daughter to Le Mans this year - as she's been pestering me since she was three, and is a total Motorsport fan.

She is also coming on the helicopter ride with us, and Lauren @ 1st tickets needed to know the weight of the passengers for the booking.

The pictures below are a transcript of our whatsapp conversation about this.

I for one, have grave doubts what our school science teachers are spending their time doing - as it certainly doesn't seem to be teaching science!!
