Hugh Chamberlain - RIP
Discussion
Here's one sure to break John Hindhaugh in his pre-race roll of honour - Le Mans legend Hugh Chamberlain passed away on Saturday.

His random wandering in to the studio mid-race for "a quick chat" were always amusing, entertaining, and informative.

Although he had been ill for some time, it still came as a shock to hear he had passed away on Sunday evening.
I was one of his mechanics at Chamberlain Engineering from 99, we worked together later under Vantage racing and stayed in touch when that finished. Always great company and had some proper tears in your eyes funny moments.
Attached is a picture of him at his local pub when we met up a while ago, brought a few of his pots along to show us.
RIP mate. You'll be missed.

...and usually lasted for an hour at least, not that anyone's counting.https://www.dailysportscar.com/2024/03/01/hugh-cha...

RIP, he'll be missed.
A great character and one of the Le Mans 'essentials'. I think most of us used to really look forward to the Hugh Chamberlain interview(s) on RLM.
I was fortunate to have dinner with him, Trussers and some friends in Buckingham during the Silverstone 6 hour weekend a few (well, quite a few now) years back. He just happened to be in the pub when we were having a pre-meal drink, saw Trussers with us and decided to join us! He was wonderful - and extremely candid about some aspects, particularly his role (short-lived) with a team at Le Mans who thought they knew it all but in reality knew very little. Hilarious!
He will be missed for sure. RIP Hugh.
I took this shot on the Friday walkabout in 2003....

I have one of those shirts Hugh has on in my garage...think the caption was "Captain Santa makes your dreams come true".... Had my work cut out at that event, we could replace the gear clusters but not the gearbox - changed 2 sets and was ready with a 3rd but manages to limp it to the finish. Car was hanging at the end.I was fortunate to have dinner with him, Trussers and some friends in Buckingham during the Silverstone 6 hour weekend a few (well, quite a few now) years back.
