Differences between start-finish straight tribunes
Discussion
For the first time, we're considering a tribune for this year rather than sitting on the banking at Indianapolis, and I'd appreciate opinions. Looking at the map, most are CAT1 except 11,Wimille, 12. Benoit and 14.Barnato. Any ideas why?
We will be ACO members by the 7th, so any reason not to just got the ACO or Durand?

First off you have the ones above the grandstands, T34 - Paddock - other than the front row you can't see what's happening in the pits and most of the day you're in direct sun, unpleasent if it's a hot year.
Next you have the other side where the main difference between grandstands are "roof or no roof" and in a couple of cases I think "seat back or no seat back". From memory T11 - Wolleck has no roof or seat backs.
Not sure about the other 'lesser' grandstands but at a guess some will have partially obstructed views or limited/no view of a big screen.

Thought most had roofs now - possibly mentioned on ACO ticket info.
Some are pretty exposed to wind and sideways rain or sun late afternoon if sit near edges or back - especially as you move up the straight on the outside of the track
T17/T18 have bar/cafe and toilets inside
Have only sat there for Classics - normally sit T23 - no seat backs but cars slower, better noise as accelerate towards line (was a bit loud and screeching further up straight) and pit entrance lane and big screen. Front 8 or so rows do get fencing in view)
Start finish straight does get more of the build up opposite.

I prefer the ACO stand 17/18. Particularly for my dad, the toilets and food/drink within the stands makes a big difference. Showers downstairs also if you needed them. View of pits and big screen.
I personally wouldn’t do the pits 34 ones, due to issues mentioned earlier. And if coming from outside the circuit, will be pain to get to each time.
Done Sommer and Barnato before. Alright, just further along straight so less pit views. (If sat right on the top row, take a blanket to put behind you and the rail, to block the wind that comes in from airport direction. Made a massive difference)
Front few rows you tend to get wet if it rains, despite having a roof. So be prepared or get seats further back.
Wimille was okay, gave more of a view towards Dunlop.
Quite liked Dunlop 5 one year. Screen and see the cars moving about on approach and through chicane.
Quite fancy trying Raccordment one year for the different angle.
Not tried other stands further along from ACO one.
Once addicted to the place, nice to try something one year, see if it works and if not try other options.

Over my 36 Le Mans I've sat in a fair few of them. I currently sit in T17 (Durand). Simply because of the convenience of the cafe and clean toilets downstairs.
Don't necessarily be put off by the stories of T34 (Pits). It's a brilliant grandstand if you want to take photographs of the cars without debris fencing in the way. One of the few places left. It does get hot when the sun is out (it must have been very hot in there this year) and it's pretty steep. I've sat in there many times including the front row quite often which lets you hang a camera out and catch the cars in the pits.
I believe Wollek remains uncovered, but I could be wrong.
The one GS I would never sit in again is T23 (Raccordement). The view is great (as long as you get a seat high up) but there are too many seats crammed in and they are small, backless, cramped and stunningly uncomfortable.....
