Classic cars seem to get an automatic decline for this sticker (:cough: money making) scheme so what's the collective thoughts on this stupid emissions zone implementation in Rouen for classics attending the Classic Event at Le Mans, have they essentially declined any passage for old cars into the city now?

How is it checked, what's the likelihood of getting hauled up etc, appreciate some thoughts?

Other threads on this in here. Summary is:

  • Classics are basically banned from Rouen (in theory)
  • There is no enforcement at the moment (other than being pulled over and inspected), no cameras at all
  • Take the bridge at Yvetot if you want to be sure and avoid Rouen tunnel stress

Cheers, did read the other thread, wondered if there was any recent experience from people attending the normal 24hr this year.

If you use the tunnel and ring road at rouen you are ok, if you leave the ring road you could in theory be done.

Citation Needed. biggrin

The map on the Rouen council website suggests the tunnel and ring road are in the zone and there are (very small) signs on that route.

Coming back from the 24hrs we followed an ancient Passat billowing clouds of black smoke out the back, so the locals seem to be ignoring/risking it.

Yes the ring road is within the zone but not part of it, the local authority need the ring road to allow passage for the trucks etc as no other route for heavy vehicles, however if you leave the ring road it is another matter

We took the Yvetot route on the way down and made a right hash of it. Only saved by a cunning route to our campsite which recovered 40 mins by avoiding all the queues.

On the way home we drove straight through Rouen and saw no signs or any enforcement at all. Our party included a TVR and a 20yo Disco II which was very visibly not emissions compliant!

All sounds very lax so may still brave it into the centre when needed

the signage is in place on the ring road etc, but its not very visible. Saw the one down by the railway yards on the way back, if you don't know what to look for you'll never see it. Basically a red circle on a white background

the official Rouen map shows what is in the ZFE https://www.metropole-rouen-normandie.fr/zone-faib...

in practice it seems not to be enforced. but one day it will be

the sign on the way in from (ex)cow roundabout https://goo.gl/maps/pXaNPvkWXwy3wGSo9

In a particular hurry?

If not, norther of Rouen rather than following the A28 when it turns south swap to the A29 and keep heading west. Then drop down the A151 before heading west again to the Bac Berville-sur-seine ferry. Only a short run down the D64 the other side and you pick up the A13 heading south to Le Mans.

Having driven too and from Le Mans a couple of weeks ago for the 24hr, and seen nothing and nobody with even a hint of Critair rules, my drive next week will be one of Rouen reverberating to the sound of an old Ford 2.8i traversing the city limits as quickly as possible before someone looks at the windscreen.

In true French style, it seems even the locals are pretty apathetic towards it.

I went to the 24 and set my Sat Nav to avoid toll roads and I didn't go through Rouen.

Yep, not been through Rouen for about 15 years. One visit (pre-satnav) that involved us driving under the bridge over the river 3 times, and another that involved following the main signs...up a horrible cobbled side street was enough for me. Crossed the Seine at Les Andeles ever since, after enjoying lunch sat on it's banks.

I drove down to the 24hrs on the A28, Headed through the Rouen tunnel then took the right fork which swings you down under the bridge to join the D18E I was not using a sat nav on the Journey down, I didn't see any forms of spy cameras and didn't see any signage telling me I was entering a Zone? I continued down to the former Cow roundabout staying on the D18E and then further on joined the A13 and then the Toll road to Le Mans.
I do have a Crit air sticker in my window which I got a few years back for Paris, its Crit 3 (Orange)

But I have no idea how they charge you or weather I should be expecting a letter in the post?

On the return Journey home I used waze and that said there was a clean air zone so I avoided it, turned off towards Bernay and went through Les Andelays, Gournay N bray but its a big diversion and stuck a good 1,1/2 hours on the Journey and there are a lot of new speed cameras on the D roads, sadly France is not the place it once was frown

I think that is the way we went this year. Does it bypass the industrial area ?

Only charges are the fine for driving a non-compliant vehicle through the zone. (Currently manually enforced)

I'm still not convinced of GT6's suggestion that lorries and other stinky vehicles can just drive straight through the zone as that seems to defeat the object of the exercise.

I read somewhere, that there was a 3 stage enforcement. Telling off/reported/fined. But this is France and they change their minds. So they'll either forget it or come down hard on everybody (especially us) and then the riots start.
