M20 closures next week Monday to Thursday 8pm to 6 am - section near Ashford - not too long a stretch but official diversions are pretty long. Would basically have to navigate through Ashford.

All the time Maidstone West to Ashford - Brock again (pretty sure was this time last year) two lanes 50mph each way. Quite a few cars in lorry park lanes (left lanes just after Maidstone services junction) including a convoy of US cars today.

Both pretty close to Tunnel and if go that way to Dover they may have lorries/restrictions on A20 bit to Dover.

Just looked on the Highways Agency website and they are adament that the M20 goes East-West rather than North-South. They do the same for the M3.

Looks like it is between junctions 9-10a

The m20 is an absolute pain for Kent, brock seems to be on and off constantly and when it’s closed it just kills all the other roads. The 50mph limit with no hard shoulder, narrow lanes and barriers either side it exceptionally dangerous.

They should have built a Eurotunnel car & freight terminal way up country, as they originally promised. A huge chunk of the traffic has come from north of the M25.

Even having the main terminal at somewhere like Ebbsfleet would be more convenient for the 99% (at a guess) of tunnel traffic that is not coming from or going to a destination in southern Kent.

I suspect the biggest blocker to having a 'Eurotunnel North' loading point would be having to provide onboard facilities better than the few grubby toilets the train currently has. Sitting in your car looking at the carriage wall for an extra 3 or 4 hours would not be fun.

That’s good - they are still keeping the narrow London bound stuff in place though - very worst bit of trip to end journey last year.

A train can easily do Birmingham to Euston in an hour. Put a terminal at, say Daventry, and I bet you’d add little more than an hour. Yes, a few more bogs on even standard trains would not go amiss.

I live in Maidstone the M20 to the tunnel is my only option, I have just checked Highways agency say local roads will remain open and can be accessed via the m20.
I am on the 06.50 tomorrow and will be taking my Motorhome I cannot miss my train as they don’t run too many large vehicle trains.
I am planning to leave at 4.30 and use the A20 and go through Ashford to the stop 24 services and double back to the tunnel, either from Leeds castle J7 or J9

I hope they finish early, I won’t be the only person doing this 😩

Anticipating a diversion we were on the road at 04.30 ouch, got to J9 on M20 and everything was open arrived at Eurotunnel very early fortunately they bumped us to an earlier train.
At LM now 3 beers in and it’s 29 degrees.
On balance worth the early start, I believe tomorrow is the last planned day of works on M20
