Any advice on the wrongs and rights of using a portable BBQ IN THE CAMPING AREA the foil type plonked on the grass?

Or any suggestions of disposable ones that come with a stand that would be okay?

Or any other ideas

Thanks

Breeze block ? There is bound to be something lying around you can stand it on.
Don't use a Black and Decker Workmate. They burn. I know.

Been there, seen it, got the scorch marks.

Occaisionally you'll find overpriced bent bits of metal sold as legs, but a couple of bricks does the job

Disposables aren't cheap, so if you're planning on having a few bbqs, look at the price of a cheap bbq and a bag of charcoal

On the dry years there’s fires so keep them off the grass. Usually better to not use disposables but at least take a couple of bricks if if doesn’t have wires. Even then on the very dry ones the wires might not stop the grass burning.

Unless you're just going to have 1 or 2 BBQs as others have said you'd be better off with a proper one.

While you can still get a BBQ in Le Mans the days of piles of €20 ones in Carrefore seem to have gone so better off taking one with you and just buying charcoal/lighter fluid in the supermarket.

And if you're limited on space, unless it's to the Se7en extream get something like this one. Folded up it's only laptop bag sized and while I first bought mine with low expectations and as a 'take it and leave it behind' item it actually turned out to be really good so it's now done 3 or 4 Le Mans.

Oh, but take matches as the French only like to sell them in bundles of boxes.

Bricked / Breeze blocks good idea.

Struggling for space so will need to buy over there

Like the portable one that looks like a sound investment for when I have space

Did a portable one on a bin one time. Unfortunately the bin melted 😂

Thanks for the help

Disposables are crap, impossible to cook properly on and make your food taste of lighter fuel. Foldable is the way to go, Mike takes up less space than a couple of disposables, fuel can always be bought over there

Yes have a look in asda they had fold flat BBQ;s for about the price of two small dispoable ones. charcaol and lighter gel can be pirchased in france and the BBQ will last all week, also you can add charcoal in the evening to add a little warmth to the campsite

These little barrel grills are great, he's mine adapted to take a rotisserie. It was raining last weekend so an ideal Le Mans test run!

I have one of these, for smaller cook ups I will just use as a stand for a disposable

Most of the collapsable/foldable ones are actually smaller/no bigger than a single disposable.

Thanks for all the help. Space is really at a premium. I have ordered a small portable fold up.

Need space for clothes and tools and spares

See picture as to why space is so tight

Suggest fit a removable boot rack to expand luggage space - the generic tubular style with hook clamps over the edge of the boot lid are fine. Just over £100, easy to fit and non-damaging, altough worth protecting the edges of the boot lid where the clamps go with a plastic trim/edge protector or even bodge tape just to be sure. Used one for years with an MGB.

Yep been there before with that solution doesn’t lend itself to staying in hotels etc and looks awful and given the choice between not taking a BBQ or having a boot rack I would do without the boot rack 😂

I dunno, I've always thought small roadsters looked great with a boot rack, complete with period suitcase strapped to it with leather straps, and a weathered GB sticker on the back. A sort of "I don't need a boring SUV to tour France" look. And wouldn't you take the suitcase off to take into the hotel with you? The BBQ can stay in the boot.

Pha!, MTFU.

I do Le Mans in a Spitfire, which I'd gamble has a smaller boot than a TR6 and between the boot and space behind the seats I can get; a pop-up gazeboo, 4 man tent, collapsable BBQ, collapsable fire pit, disco mirror ball, solar fairy lights, 2x clothes bags, 2x sleeping bags, 2x bed rolls, 2x camp chairs, 1x camp table, other sunderies in there - you just need the smallest of everything and to find every little nook and cranny to shove things into! Oh, and the gazeboo needs to be absolutly the first thing in/last thing out and even then need need to be rolled and twisted in just the right way to get in smile

My collapsable BBQ just slots behind one of the seats.
