Beausejour camping - How does it work?
Discussion
My group of 4 people doesn't like to be packed in parking so we buy multiple camping pitches which works well will numbered spaces. However this year we have been moved to Beausejour and i have 3 camping pitch tickets. Do i need them as i plan to take up plenty of space still or have i wasted my money and could free up for somebody who needs one? Any idea how unallocated works?
Well each Beausejour ticket allows parking of 1 vehicle and a 5*7m pitch. The pitches are occasionally (before rain, depending on all kinds of things nobody understands) marked with spray paint on the grass. So you are entitled to 105 sq m and to avoid being anti-social should fit your vehicles and all other bits into that space.
If you arrive on Friday 2 June you will have a pretty good choice of where to select your 3 pitches.
If you arrive on Friday 9 June you will be lucky to find 35 sq m, let alone a coherent 105 sq m.
To put it another way, for each 35 sq m of space you want, you should have a ticket. If you only arrive on Friday 9 June it is highly likely you will not be able to find large(r) spaces.

My group have a pitch here and we've bought a 5m long tent to share. Am I incredibly optimistic in thinking it will fit? Hoping diagonally shouldn't cause any problems... Might be pushing our luck considering we're arriving Thursday afternoon!
Edit:
Dukla, are you saying the car space isn't part of the 5x7 pitch space? In which case we should have loads of room. I was expecting 5x5 after shoving a standard car in there.

The pitches last year were 5 x 7, and you are meant to put car and tent on it. Park your car across it and you can get away without having the width of the car on it.
Thank you, I'm sure we'll work something out! Do you perhaps know what the site is like on the Sunday night? As we're planning on departing Monday morning._Yeti said:

Yup, as per others, with 1 ticket you need to fit everything into 5*7m, including vehicle & guy ropes, to be a good citizen. Edit:

Sunday night way back when was pretty wild west: allegedly has calmed down and we are stopping Sunday this year again. But from lunchtime onwards make sure your stuff is secure: gate security vanishes and the locals with white vans come around looking for things that move!
Anything goes on BJR. Most people respectful and leave a gap but if you leave too big a gap between set ups there will be a French tent shoehorned in it on Friday evening. What always annoys me is when people hazard tape off way more space than they need. Remember check the forecast as parts get boggy or outright flooded here. As above last few years Sunday night fairly quiet with a lot gone home and not at all like 10-15 years ago, catapulting chickens, burning sofas and fridges etc

Most people missunderstand the role of the people stood at the gates. They are not security, there to keep campers and their property safe and sound, they are just there to prevent people who haven't paid for a camping pass driving in and camping. As such they only work from the point the gates open for the start of Le Mans to the point it ends, which is to say 15:00CEST on the Sunday. And we've only ever had pleasant experiences with the local, umm, independent recyclers when staying the Sunday night. Sure if it's clearly abandoned and not nailed down it goes, but if a pitch looked like it was still in use it was ignored and if it looked abandoned but there were still people near it they would wander over and ask if it was abandoned or not before digging in.
The only losses we have had over the years have been earlier in the week - you can access many of the campsites on foot without any form of ticket and if you have bad intentions do it at say 15:00CEST on the Saturday there will be hardly a soul around to see you!
