Rouen, Tunnel and Crit-Aire
Discussion
Just traveled down from Calais and have to report that the tunnel into Rouen has major works being done.
Both sides down to one lane with barriers all the way through, no problems for us mid week but I can see it may be slow when busy. The signs said they are on for a long time.
Did not see any signs for the Crit-Aire zone

I’ve been through Rouen many times, through the tunnel down over the river onto the dual carriageway through the industrial area to the motorway and not seen any sign of the CritAir zone.
Another thing to lookout for is coming of the river bridge. It’s been revised and you turn off earlier and the 360 to get you onto the road below now goes clockwise whereas it’s always been anti-clockwise
Still signposted Le Mans

That doesn't mean it's not there. The N28/D18E used to be a corridor through the zone, but I don't believe it is anymore. If your Crit'Ait is 0, 1, 2 or 3, you'll be ok anyway.
Enforcement is 'manual' until next year, when they'll start using ANPR.
What I have found out is that Rouen has been one of the Crit Aire cities that have recently approved exemptions for classic cars - anything 30+ years old.
If the tunnel is going to be a bit packed and a boring entry into to Rouen (no dropping to 3rd and flooring) then I might give it a miss this time. Also anticipating much more queuing and waiting around. Will go round the other side of Rouen and take the small car ferry instead.

What sticker does a 29 year old TVR get If the tunnel is going to be a bit packed and a boring entry into to Rouen (no dropping to 3rd and flooring) then I might give it a miss this time. Due to the potential misunderstanding on whether the sticker is needed or not I have got mine just in case….got a funny feeling if there is manual checks they may well start on about 1st June for a couple of weeks
Read that next year fixed cameras will be up making any fine issuing all automatic - That is, until the French farmers, pensioners, health workers, [enter industry here] bend them all over!LawrieC said:
I can see that fixed cameras can pick up number plates, but a small purple smudge in the windscreen would be a challenge. Maybe they just go on number plate
When you register the vehicle you add the number plate so it would be an ANPR type system. Stickers would be too easy to fake if that’s what it looked out for.Stickers are for manual checks if you park up in Rouen on side streets and car parks. No ANPR yet - or you’d just register and get no sticker (like Dartford crossing) as small fee probably just about covers admin of system and stickers and postage.
Lot more bigger problems in France this year that could affect race. Gendarmes stepping out amongst lorries and two lane traffic in Rouen would be total madness.

They never would stop the traffic. They don’t even stop it for speeding unless someone is doing something dangerous. They pass it on to the next Peage.
