Description on here suggests a lot of landscaping for a flat low area

Unlikely in my mind - this has become a breeding ground for food and drink vendors in recent years, and I'd guess they bring in more cash than the funfair, which is why it's gradually been moved further 'south' into the wasteland by the Porsche Driving Experience.

That area could do with some work though as you get a massive bottleneck past the back of the Dunlop grandstand - espcially if you put a really slow serving 'fast food' stall that involves queuing twice for everything right on the corner. Then you have a small, overcrowded area of spectator banking and an empty dust bowl. Sort of had a purpose when some of the concerts were there but as they seem to be moving them (miles from anything), not so much.

Isn’t this where the bands normally play? They usually run out of space so perhaps it’s to help with that.

Used to. Were on the other side of the track just below the Dunlop bridge last year.
