So I’ve managed to get in to my 40’s without having done Le Mans, closest we’ve got was the Nurburgring 24h a few years ago.

A group of us were chatting about heading over for the 2023 race but don’t really know where to start in terms of finding a decent campsite / any other general things to know.

Anyone able to recommend campsites to use / avoid?

Do you just want to camp and fend for yourselves? Or do you want a managed site where there is the option of a pay bar tv and security? Do you want the lottery of getting your tickets from the ACO and finding out that your chosen campsite isn't what you're getting and you are not where you want to be? How many of you are going?

So many questions need answers! biggrin

I think the priorities would be secure, safe place for car and toilets that don’t make me feel sick, followed closely by a 1/2 sensible shower.

Happy to take tents or hire a pre erected one.

I assumed there were bars and reasonable food dotted around the circuit but if that’s not the case on site catering would be good as I’d rather not mess about cooking.

I assume we’re looking for middle of the road type offering, I don’t want to upset other campers if we have a few beers and are chatting and laughing into the night but also don’t want the car or myself being hit by a drunk drifting around the campsite.

In terms odd numbers I’d have thought somewhere between 6 and 10

Food at the secure campsites like the Pistonheads one and the others is pretty good. I tend to only get the breakfast at the campsite and have a couple of bbqs at the tent. Food in the circuit is average at best. We tend to head into Le Mans town on Friday and Sunday night for some awesome food and drink.

If you are having a few beers and chatting and laughing then you will be like the rest of us biggrin

PH have an affiliation with 1st Tickets who are an ACO accredited agency for the LM24 & who offer a private camping option as well public camping.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

We've used 1st Tickets since 2013 on their private campsite at Bleu Nord (having not done the LM24 before) & I'd really struggle to do the public camping option these days. 1st Tickets run a good private site with the option of catering and pre-erected tents (we do both) & the peace of mind of a fenced campsite with like-minded enthusiasts means we always make new friends when we go & see people we've shared the campsite with numerous times before.

You can either ask 1st Tickets to book all your travel arrangements or just ask them to do the private camping and entry tickets....it's very much down to you. They can also make a booking in your name and then all your friends bolt on to your booking & they pay them direct rather than having to chase them all to pay you etc. which is useful.

DO NOT EAT THE RED SAUSAGE !

Other than that , just enjoy it ,get up v early to have a shower if camping .

Lock away in car all valuables out of sight.

As above.
First time I’d stayed at Porsche curves with travel destinations this year after years of public camping.
My 11 year old lad came this year so thought nicer showers and toilets would make his first experience a bit more pleasant.
Wouldn’t really want to stay anywhere else now. We’ve booked again for next year.

I can back this up I was on Black box last year being a youngster makes Insurnace cheap sop didn't speed. The amount of police you see is a lot on the way usually hiding in places you don't expect. Join WhatsApp groups people post where they have seen them on certain routes.

Porsche Curves sold out a couple of months ago I think, I was on the waiting list and luckily got in as someone didn't pay their deposit, the glamping may still be available the other side of the track on Beausejour

I suggest that anyone going for the first time has not only ear plugs and a decent pair of ear defenders if they are camping near the circuit - it truly is a noisy experience!!

I've used the PH 1st Tickets private site for many years now. We love it and it works for us.

Get booking now though, it's almost full.

? Day? All night too, I take ear defenders (not ear plugs) and normally sleep with them on all night in between the odd visit to trackside to watch another hour of racing. I would recommend a visit to the Beer mountain website for general advice and campsite reviews.

It largely depends how much you want to spend, how long you want to stay and what camping kit you have available.

Most of the campsites are relatively tame now, but there's only food in the village/near the stands, in the private campsites and places like Arnage. So most resort to the barbecue. Beer is approaching €10 a pint, so a round is an arm and a leg, but in the supermarkets, a case of beer is quite cheap, but you'll need a fridge (which red wine doesn't need)

2023 will be different as its the 100th anniversary, so there will be a lot more going on, and it will be heaving

Just remember the 7 P's - Proper Planning and Preparation Prevents Pi$$ Poor Performance.
