Rouen low emission zone
Discussion
That's the Pont De Brotonne, the bridge with tractor lanes. Then aim for Bourgtheroulde on the old Le Mans road (N138).
Its free, and useful if you're coming from Le Havre or Dieppe. In fact coming from the north, rather than the north east is a lot quicker, as they send you another way, and you're straight over the river, and onto the dual carriageway, rather than being sent though the middle and then miles of industrial estate.
Always avoid Rouen during rush hour

Only applies inside the ring road. So as long as you don't drive through Rouen, you have no issues.
That’s not correct anymore. It applies to all the roads in the area now including the commonly used A28. Also it switches to Euro 5 and above in January. https://www.metropole-rouen-normandie.fr/zone-faib...

I assume you can pay to drive through it as in the UK ?
Not possible. It’s a fine for driving through in a vehicle with a Crit’air sticker (compliant or not) and for non compliant vehicle even with the sticker. Crit'air has move on. Rouen seems to have a permanent ban, but originally, older vehicles were only banned when it was a bit smoggy. Their ban prevents older vehicles crossing the Seine, and covers all of the town, except the University.
No great loss then, I never did like Rouen.
As for classics, there is hope. "If your vehicle is over 30 years old and is no longer produced and its technical characteristics have not been modified, you can apply for a "collector's vehicle" gray card from the National Agency for Secured Titles ( https://ants.gouv.fr/ ). For this, it will be necessary to attach to the request a certificate drawn up either by the manufacturer or its representative in France, or by the French Federation of Vintage Vehicles (FFVE). The transition to a collector's vehicle for the 30-year-old vehicle is not automatic."
Every time I look this up, the answer's different. Thats the French for you

This is starting to annoy me, even though one of my cars is Critair Class 1.
This zone has been there for 4 years, but you can't tell. Do they just not bother, or is this a fiasco like the breathalysers

It only just started to include private vehicles (after its recent expansion). Before then it was commercial vehicles only. January it will switch to Euro 5 and above vehicles. This fine. Presumably they collate the information and send out the fine by post? Similar to a speed camera in the UK?
Several problems with that, first their system won't recognise a foreign plate. Second, if you are on UK plates they have no means of obtaining your address from the UK since it is no longer in the EU. So unless they are going to chase you down and issue an on the spot fine, it's not an issue.
And for those of you thinking that next year when you drive off the ferry there's going to be a French policeman waiting to slap a fine on you, there isn't. And they are as joined up as the UK in that customs won't know or care about a local fine in Rouen. Hell, they don't care about the thousands of caravans and motorhomes carrying 'contaminated' non EU meat and dairy products across the channel.

Presumably they’ll have the power to pull you over in the zone and impose one of their special cash only finesSeveral problems with that, first their system won't recognise a foreign plate.
