Visiting Le Mans?
Discussion
Hi All,
I'll be in France next week and the week after attending the Saint Goueno Masters hillclimb. Looking to do a bit of site seeing before/after the event. Since I'll have my car I was looking to travel down to Le Mans on one of the days as it's only around 3 hours away.
Is there anything you veterans recommend doing or seeing?
I will go to the museum and tour of the track, I'll try and drive the parts of the circuit which are public roads (though these might be closed as it's so close to the 24hrs?)
What is the actual town of Le Mans like? Would you recommend seeing anything in it?
Thanks!

As leyorkie the old town around the cathedral is a nice spot for a wander.
Depending how fit you're feeling start down by the river and walk/drive up Rue Wilbur Wright, enjoying both the patchwork of the old city walls - and the fact someone used to think sending vintage cars up Rue WW as part of the 24hrs Driver's Parade was a sensible idea.
Up the top the cathedral's on your left and, from memory most of the town ahead/right of you. I like the quiet little, tucked away medieval corner of Rue de la Vielle Prte/Rue des 3 Sonnettes, to the right from the top of Rue WW, near the top of the next road up from the river (Rue de la Galere). Destination for many a post Driver Parade meal

Probably too late for you but I'd highly recommend this place Manoir de l'Automobile Just south of Rennes which you'll likely be passing.
