Hi all...I'm going to the Le Mans 24 Hours next month. I have a little portable FM Digital radio so I can pick up Radio Le Mans. Is this the correct radio to use?.

Yes, you’ll probably need a set of ear defenders over the top too

Batteries / powerbank too, the modern digital/FM radios burn through power much quicker than the old fashioned FM only radios.

Just for anyone buying a new radio for the trip, also digital only radios are no use, needs to have fm

My old Aiwa pocket radio with FM and a set of headphones always worked well picking up RLM. Never drained the batteries either.

Would a radio app for AM/FM on your phone work with a set of Bluetooth headphones? Appreciate this would require facilities to charge both items.

Try it on the BBC! Most phones use the headphone cable as the aerial

Always have a spare and ear defenders

1. As LawrieC said - depends if they use the headphone lead as the aerial, but you can test that at home.
2. Also are you talking about an AM/FM app that uses an AM/FM tuner built in to the phone, or an AM/FM app that streams radio over the internet? The former would be fine, the latter will see you fighting everyone else for bandwidth, can be bad especially at the start/end of the race.
3. How many phone battery packs do you have...? Not the easiest to keep charge in your phone if you're in a tent and anything running off your phone, like the app and Bluetooth will be eating into those battery percentage points.
4. Are we talking cheap BT headphones or something shiny, white, and fruit based (or shiny, black and starting with a B)? The latter could make you a target for the light of finger, certainly more so than the former. Is Le Mans a hot bed of crime? No, not at all - but that doesn't mean everyone has to hide their halos either.

I bought one of these. Cheap. Good sound. OK on the provided earphones, pretty good on my mid range wired earbuds, Sounds great on my sony noise cancelling headphones

I also have a FM app on my phone which needs wired phones for the airiel but I prefer a dedicated device with AA batteries

I’ll be using a Nokia 105 (£20 sim free), they all have a radio and as a bonus you can play Snake too.

Smart move, but the WEC app would be worth considering

Uses data which is usually pretty poor - an FM radio tuned to RLM wins every time.

Can you repost the Amazon link as the original doesn't work as it’s from your order list. Thanks!

All I can see is the bucket I've just bought the wife! Well it is her birthday hehe

It needs to be good as the French commentary is on the adjacent station, with 10 times the power. Then, in the stands, those Bose speakers are so loud you need ear defenders to start with, and I do wonder if the power can upset your radio

I’ve used the same old little fm tuner for years and it’s fine, it’s just about keeping up with coverage and not interrupting the days enjoyment whilst keeping hold of what going on. I generally go to sleep listener to it and grabbing the hourly catch ups
