Hi fellow PH'ers,

My brother and I will be travelling over for our first experience of Le Mans and I heard others advising taking a bike (folding bike in my case as I drive a F56 Mini) to ease getting about.

Does anyone know if electric scooters are allowed at the track?

Thanks in advance.

Si

I really wouldn't worry. I bolted a 2 stroke bike engine onto the back of a tiny bike intended for a 5 year old and hooned around on the local site roads with just a mildly unimpressed look for the gendarmes.

We have had trouble from securite in the past with petrol scooters, but that faded but never with electric scooters (to my knowledge - not many get there). Electric scooters are legal in France, but you're expected to have insurance. Recharging from a generator isn't ideal

Also worth bearing in mind that whatever the rules are implementation of them will be unpredictable

There's certainly plenty of people whizzing about on scooters.

I suspect the biggest issue (other than charging) is risk of theft.

Morning all,

My 19 year old son and I are going this year and have rented a house in Le Mans, 5 miles from the MMA arena entrance.

I am considering getting a couple of eScooters to get from the house to the circuit and back, we are likely to go the circuit on Friday for a while then obviously Saturday probably coming back to sleep then back Sunday morning then back again.

On Saturday/Sunday I have somewhere I can store them at the circuit (we are in the AMR hospitality) but Friday would have to carry /walk them round with us.

Given the track walk on Friday I thought it would be fun to do that on eScooters plus obviously keeps us flexible about bobbing back to the house for a rest if we need to over the weekend.

What are people’s views? Dumb idea?

I am worried that given it is a bumper year the queues for trams etc will be a nightmare and 5 miles is a long walk each way for 3 days.

I have a feeling they are banned.

I would check the details for however you are crossing the Channel as well, make sure your ferry/train allows the carriage of them.

They are banned, you'll be very lucky to get them into the track at all and could have them taken off you outside the track too. Even if you could get them in have you carried one before, they're pretty heavy!

Glad I asked thanks very much! I hadn’t found that in my searches.

I guess we are walking and tramming!

They seem to be allowed in camp sites and outside the circuit. They are not allowed inside the circuit.

According to the link above regular scooters are allowed in the camp sites and parking areas, but not in the circuit.

The speed differential would be too great under race conditions.

Just an observation, there were dozens of electric scooters looping the circuit when the track was open to the public last year

Yes I've seen quite a few but I guess there's a difference between public access or smuggling them into a campsite within the track Vs trying to get them in through a pedestrian gate.

As has been said many times before security is very much a roll of the dice at LM, or like a box of chocolates etc......
