I've been told Le French cops are going to be more picky over the requirement to display a GB sticker on our cars - easy pickings for fines I expect. I had to get new number plates yesterday, they now do them with a GB and Union Jack to the side of the plate - looks subtle / fine so I went for it instead of the GB sticker

Another change is that the old paper driving licence is not acceptable. I believe that you will need an International Driving Permit or a new plastic one.
Plus a green card.

The driving permit is painless, can be bought from your post office, and expires with your licence if I recall correctly.
Although it does look like a ration book from WWII 😁

Most of us WON'T need an international driving permit - that was one of the few gaps covered as part of the Christmas Eve deal. The only people who WILL need one are people with ONLY a paper licence (i.e. no photocard) and those with licences issued in Gibraltar, Guernsey, Jersey or the Isle of Man (https://www.gov.uk/driving-abroad/international-driving-permit - and yes, that page is updated for 2021+).

I've bought motorbike GB stickers and stuck them to the corner of my number plates a few times.

There must be very few people still with a paper licence who haven’t moved house or had any kind of endorsement since 1998.

The GB sticker will still be needed, the little GB flag on the number plates will not be a substantial size..
I know it’s petty, but the french police could use this as an excuse to fine you...

Edit to say it was what I was told today when I contacted the RAC before I purchased some new number plates today

3.1 inches the GB letters must be, I'll check mine but suspect you are correct based on what I've read

If that is true and the identifier needs to be bigger than the old EU one why are they even bothering with them on the plates? I’m a tad skeptical about that and I think it’s time the government clarified the situation. If you need a GB sticker like back in the 70s then that’s ridiculous if it’s on the plate

And yet you'll still go to France because it's preferable to staying here?

It's actually really hard to find anything clarifying the situation at the moment... I will take a pic and measure my no plate.
