Being Positive
Discussion
Looking on the brightside...
We've just missed the weekend we all love, this is bad, however..
The Virtual race was so much better than expected (well I thought so) and I'm sure we were not the only Le Mans pals that were in constant communication over the weekend, chatting about the race, enjoying beers and the odd Merguez. Was it as good as the real week? No not by a mile, but it could have just been another weekend in lockdown.
So that is a positive outcome. What is even better is the chance that they will run the race in September and we'll be able to attend. I know that whilst France have relaxed a lot of rules they are still not allowing mass gatherings, however we have 3 months and a lot can change. The virtual race has been deemed a success, you can bet that they will do everything possible to get the real race on track.
Finally, it's less than a year until Le Mans 2021 so we can start planning for that and if September goes ahead we'll have 2 Le Mans in 9 months and that is a win.

I was just thinking the same thing over the weekend...Hopefully we will get a decision fairly soon on the September race taking place.
The popularity of the virtual race might encourage a nod to a behind-closed-doors event rather than having to cancel it entirely.
I suspect the decision will be made on financial grounds rather than any form of sporting or public health reasons.
Potentially we are very lucky. Today should be the start of a big downer...however now I've still got that big French trip to look forward to!
Furthermore its only then 9 months til the next one!
The bike race is behind closed doors, so we've lost that trip. However, the speed at which life appears to be returning to some sort of normality (here and in France) tends to me to suggest they will go ahead with it.
It won't be like normal Le Mans in terms of atmosphere, will be down on numbers, and will have lots of social distancing measures in place - but the cars will look and sound the same, as will the wine, the steak frites, the fags and the lack of wife and kids!
I don't know which excites me more - being at Le Mans, or being at my mates house afterwards"isolating" for 7 days on the wife's orders! Best ending to a Le Mans ever

Definitely next year for me..... we were going to do the classic this year, but i’ll have to pick which one to go to as doing both is not possible. Plus i’m buggered for September. I can just about get away with being in France for Fathers’ Day since 2017..... but i’ve zero pass out possibilities as Sunday 20th is number one sons’ 4th Birthday.

Rookie error.I made sure both my kids were born middle of winter...just in case :-)
I’m feeling optimistic for September. I’d have put it at 5-10% likely back in March / April. We’ll have to see if things flare up again, but the way countries are trying to bounce back, I’m being positive with 60% chance it will happen with spectators at the moment. The social distancing element and big numbers of people is still an issue.

The picture makes me feel positive about Le Mans. Just look at them. One absolute iconic Le Mans vehicle and the other at the peak of LMP1, which I feel very lucky to have witnessed. In their various petrol / diesel / hybrid forms, they have been mightily impressive. Shame it all died off suddenly, but there were epic races and they looked amazing.
I’d personally love to see GT1 style cars back at the top, with GT Pro being GT2 and GT Am being GT3. Global rules also, so the best of European / Asian / USA etc can be selected. Teams also get their money worth by being able to enter any endurance events. More car makers willing to make cars also. Open scope for customer entries of GT1 as more can be produced and raced anywhere.

The no sex sept/oct was definitely a thing in this household when we were trying!!
I think I’ve also been pretty clear Father’s Day will not be an obstacle!
A birthday around the middle two weeks of June would have been disastrous.

When she hinted about another one one day in the future, I was just made sure we got on with it straight away - don't delay the torment a second longer than necessary. So baby no 2 was January...very safe.
Winter babies was a must

I disagree: Our son was born mid June and also he was born on Father's Day that year (I rather like that fact!). Anyway, he's been coming with me to LM since 1996, so great bonding!.A birthday around the middle two weeks of June would have been disastrous.

It would have been hard to account for a September event being held.

Funny you should say that, we were off sex in September/October 2007, but then we got drunk and forgot and my son was due 15th June. So I did all I could to get him out early, finally a drive with my wife in the passenger seat in a V10 M5 with active seats in full attack mode, managed to induce him to come out on 10th June...saves me missing his birthday all the time! The no sex sept/oct was definitely a thing in this household when we were trying!!

My missus loves to stress "so you children will never see their Dad on Father's day, and you're actually ok with that?"A birthday around the middle two weeks of June would have been disastrous.
My reply..."Yep, absolutely fine"
Ironically this year Father's day is a week later, so I'd have actually been home anyway. This Sunday will be my first time being home with the both kids on Father's day.
