I am a massive Porsche enthusiast and Le Mans / Classic Le Mans fan, having been attending one or the other of these fabulous race events since 2004. In recent years I have taken my grown up daughters Jemma and Sophie, where together we were able to witness Porsche’s last LMP1 victory together in 2018.

We were really excited and looking forward to attending the Classic Le Mans 24 this year, together with many of our friends and fellow enthusiasts. Sadly as you will all know, the event has had to be postponed until 2021 due to the dreadful Covid-19 pandemic.

So to cheer me up, Sophie has kindly produced a film of our trip to the 2019 race which I think really captures the spirit of our trip and the 24 hour race. I have attached a link to the film in case some of you might be interested to see it. Some of you might even recognise yourselves.

I hope that you enjoy the film and I am looking forward to heading to Le Sarthe with some of you for our annual pilgrimage to the Village on the Curves In 2021.

Great video! I always love seeing these type of films as they are a lovely reminder of the weekend.

Here is to the next Le Mans...whenever that may be!

Fab video, really well done.

First time my son and I went was in 1996 and we went many years afterwards. We have not been for three years: arthritis in the knees means it's a problem for me going up and down the tribunes, not being able to stretch when seated, difficulty now for me getting to the Esses to Tertre Rouge etc.. Still, Eurosport plus RLM do a great job!

Lovely video and great you’re sharing good times together.

I’ve been going with my dad for many years. It’s a worry about heading back with him if it goes in sept or even next year. The video highlights just how do you have anything approaching social distancing at this event to let the powers that be authorize it happening.

Watched the video with my 9 month old. Starting early but hoping one day she’ll enjoy the trip with me.

Indeed. I shared it with a few friends who’ve been with me - it’s a good antidote for missing it year with what we’re experiencing.

Well done Martin and Sophie.
Did anyone else feel sad watching the drive home?
As I leave Le Mans every year, after 8 days of being there, I feel sad thats its all over.
The year has finished which was full of planning, chats etc.
On the drive home I make mental plans for the following year.
This year I now feel is not going to happen, if the race happens in September I doubt we will be allowed to travel to it.

Keep smiling and I look forward to the next time we are all in a field in Le Mans.

I’ve only done the trip for 6 consecutive yrs so I’m still a “junior” compared to many. I too was thinking this morning it so quickly became my annual trip of preference as with some of my friends (none of our “significant others” quite appreciate how much we enjoy it biggrin ) & it would leave many weekends that would otherwise have been used for “stickerage” etc. beforehand free. We’re now trying to plan a UK based trip after the summer as a distraction.

I can totally relate to this. I've been going every year since 2008 and the Le Mans weekend for me is the enjoyment of planning for the trip, meeting up with friends beforehand to discuss who is driving what and what we need to take down there. On the day knowing everyone has a few days off with nothing but beer and banter to enjoy, which gets rare with work, family and life to balance these days. The journey down and the convoy feeling of people descending on Le Mans is brilliant. Then enjoying camp life regardless of the weather and i haven't even mentioned the actual race that keeps us coming back.

Usually melancholy sets in when the race finishes for me, knowing it's over for another year is always a bit sad. Plus the weekend (Thurs-Mon for us) has normally gone so quickly! As we pack down the campsite on Monday morning, i am always shocked how everything is returning to normal so quickly.

The video reinforces for me what the weekend is all about - it is the best weekend of the year!

Love it!

One of our group did a video for 2017, our 10 year anniversary, probably the best year for me, except maybe when I won a Corvette in a raffle. Keeping everything crossed for 2020.
