Start Time Changed!
Discussion
Its worth being aware that the start time for the race is 2.30pm, which means having had a straight swap of our ferry booking the potential to be sitting around in Calais for 90 minutes. Not sure the earlier start time gives time to get to Dieppe for the 18:00 departure. Guess it depends how strict they are on the be there an hour before it departs rule.

Its great for us, with a 4pm finish our plans were messed up a bit, with 230pm we can now stay in my favourite spot in Boulogne Sur Mer.
That's where we head!!! Care to share any hidden gems? Last year we ended up in The Guinness Bar and ate opposite in Le Ch'ti Charivari.Vette_1978 said:

Last year we ended up in The Guinness Bar and ate opposite in Le Ch'ti Charivari.I had a project that involved a couple of business meetings tin Boulogne Sur Mer, had a really nice time in a restaurant that is unfortunately closed on a Sunday. I'll look it up, it was brilliant, recommended by the guys in the office. I shall post it here in case you're there on a weekday.
I stay at the Ibis on the waterfront, its all just bang on. I was there on the front when my wife told me she was pregnant over the phone.
I've just always liked the hotel and the waterfront really, nice place to chill after a hectic time at Le Mans.
Love the secure underground parking.

I think you're following me, you seem to end up at Hotel Arbor too if yours is the black and silver Corvette! Was talking to your passenger in 2017, discussing the joys of not having aircon in that years heatwave.

Yep, that’s me. That’s where we stay on way home! Used to stay at the cathedral IBIS until last year as they lost the secure parking. The Arbor is our race start and end, so easy and convenient, love a doze under the trees in the afternoon. Think it would have been Martín you spoke to. Had issue with passenger window as we left the car park as it wouldn’t open. Your restaurant looks very good - proper steak! However it says PERMANENTLY CLOSED, others say temporarily closed. I hope it hasn't gone bust.
Mine is Le Doyen, just a few yards away down the narrow street, but unfortunately closed on a Sunday.
There's another restaurant right in that square with a nice big balcony, open on a Sunday. Don't go there, im still scarred.
Last year we ate in Rouen in a very nice grill house, if that interests you I'll look it up. Did it just to break the journey, dinner at 7pm being a pretty good thing.
However might go for late dinner at the place you use next year if it survives, then I can drink etc. And that Ibis seem to serve as late as you like.
We use Arbor in the early part of Sat evening now, next time I'll say hello if I see you. I think you were arriving or leaving as we were arriving or leaving last year. You were in your car same time as us, or might have been 2018. We are normally there 4:30 to about 7:30pm

We used to go via Rouen on way down, for years we’d drink in the Highland Cafe which became the Taverne de Thor, but since the armada last year we used Deauville which is great. Nice coastal town, lots of bars, Ibis with secure parking, and the cleanest McDonalds on earth. Definitely grab me at the Arbor and we’ll have a beer whenever we get back there.Your restaurant looks very good - proper steak! However it says PERMANENTLY CLOSED, others say temporarily closed. I have only stayed over in Rouen once in my 6 trips so far to Le Mans - last year en route to the Moto 24. We arrived for food pretty late, and the only decent looking place open was the La Taverne De Thor - on the river highway very near to the Cathedral and a few minutes from both main Ibis hotels. They only do ham and cheese - but wow! Big platters and with big varieties of both, amazing bread, plus all the side bits / olives etc - all washed down with red wine. We will definitely go back there en route to next years moto 24.For the car race we stopped for dinner in Rouen on the way to Calais (not Boulogne on this occasion) at Courepaille Rouen-Bihorel - its a grill open on Sundays, lots of parking, and the food is fairly good if you go for a steak and chips.
My step son has developed the biggest obsession with all things Corvette since seeing his first at last years race (his first trip), so if possible I would really appreciate if he could have a close look at yours - it would make his day. Hopefully that will be next year...I'll never take anything outside of my own home for granted ever again!

This is getting spooky. The Taverne was a favourite every year as they had Ruby Leiffe on tap with the proper goblet style glasses. The landlord told us we could order pizzas from down the road and eat them outside. Walking down the stairs to the toilet after a few Leiffe was a bit tricky. For the car race we stopped for dinner in Rouen on the way to Calais (not Boulogne on this occasion) at Courepaille Rouen-Bihorel - its a grill open on Sundays, lots of parking, and the food is fairly good if you go for a steak and chips.

I’ll happily take your lad for a spin out in the car, my obsession started with Scaletrix when I was about 4, white Corvette or green 911, Corvette every time.

Ha! Amazing! What a great night we had sitting outside the Taverne. You missed a trick if you didn't eat their food, it was really good.I’ll happily take your lad for a spin out in the car, my obsession started with Scaletrix when I was about 4, white Corvette or green 911, Corvette every time.
I get the Corvette thing. I test drove a 78 in Calgary when I thought I was going to be moving there. Had I taken the 5 yr role in Abu Dhabi I would have bought a 2001. I too drooled first time I saw one at Le Mans in 2008 - there were 2 pairs I recall, different sounds possibly?! They are really cool cars- if he gets one one day (says it must be a C7 race replica) I'll be happy, because I'll have to drive it while he waits for his age to catch up with the insurance! Long way off, he's only 13 but the obsession will stick - I know what he's like.
Thank you very much for offering re the Corvette- you would make his decade. He fell in love first time a race one went past, and the obsession is relentless. Pictures, screensavers, endless reading. He's already very mechanical so plans to own and work on his own one day.
You'll be doing him the biggest favour - he's not yet been in one. I'll pm you nearer the time...hoping its just under 14 months away.
