So this year will be my first IoM TT and with 4 folk from the LM 2019 group. 3 of us ship out on Friday 31st on the ferry with 2 of us getting a flight from Gatwick on the same day. We're all coming back (ferry/flight) on 4th June.

Should be a great warm up for LM for which we all (11 of us) ship out on Tues 11th June.

Super excited!!! biggrin

Enjoy, it’s an interesting event.

Was there for work/supporting event rather than going as a fan on the 100th anniversary year.

I liked the island, but had very good weather whilst there which helped.

One thing; I was somewhat shocked and sickened at the general apathy of crowd safety. The riders know what they are getting into but spectators shouldn’t be getting wiped out. Bikes passing at 200+ within touching distance, but it’s okay, the bit of rope will keep everyone safe. Some of it is down to spectator stupidity also though.

Also take care on the roads as some try to match the pros when the roads are open.

It’s nuts!

Im from the Isle of Man and go back to the TT every year. I can only think of 2 spectator deaths since i first saw a race in the 1970s.

The risk with bikes is exiting corners, totally different to cars.

Long may the closeness to the action continue, I'd hate to lose my freedom of choice.

You'll enjoy the TT, totally different but just as good as Le Mans

Thanks chaps!

When reviewing the flights for me and my mate, price was approx £470 return on EZY from Gatwick (on the EZY website). That was 2 days ago. We opted to go ahead and book last night and the price had gone up to £540. I did the reviewing on my work PC and booked on my home PC. So prices are deffo on the up. However, there was plenty of seats to choose from.

The cost from London City return on BA came to £1006...

That's a bit steep.
I might actually miss it this year, planning to do the MGP for a week instead

Totally self inflicted. The chap who booked the ferry last year only booked for 2 passengers. The mistake was realised 3 days ago..lol.

2019 will be my regular 18 days of Le Mans, starting friday before testday and ending monday after the race.
2020 I'll do Indy 500 and a shortened version of Le Mans, no testday, but maybe a week of camping and french cuisine afterwards.
2021 I'd like to visit the Isle of Man TT.
It's been on the to-do-list of a friend of mine for ages and after watching 'Reizen Waes Europa' ( a belgian travelshow with a different take on things) about the TT recently and rewatching TT3D: Closer to the Edge yesterday, the Tourist Trophy has appeared on my to-do-list as well!

I expect the TT to be run until friday 4th of June in 2021, and Le Mans to be run in the weekend of 12 and 13 June, so I intend on travelling to the UK and then to Man on saturday 27th of May, and heading back to France saturday 5th of June.

I know this is a bit far upfront, so expect me to ask you questions regarding travel to the Isle of Man and places to stay shortly after 2020's TT when I start planning for 2021!

Cheers,

Vince

OK, here we go biggrin

Ferry tickets go on sale for those who didn't have ferry tickets for this year's cancelled TT, so hopefully there are still left come tomorrow morning 8.30

After that it is looking into accommodation. I'd like to do my usual Le Mans setup, so big tent for sleeping, and gazebo for living room/kitchen, with electricity for the chandelier and fridge, of course.

Which campsites can you recommend?

Thank you in advance, Vince

Other do's or don'ts?

Do you have to buy tickets to be able to watch the race? I guess only in the start/finish area? When and where can I get them?

For power hook ups look at Glen Wylin in Kirk Michael or Cronk Ashen top of Bagarrow. I’m booked at Glen Wylin, used it for years. Lots of camp sites pop up but have no power.

Do’s
Karting at Jurby, check out airfield for testing, Met Guy Martin and Nigel there.
Beer at Bushys if it opens
Wander pits, meet riders, get merchandise
Watch classic racing at Billown if you are there for practise week
Chips at Peel
See Joey at Bungalow, visit Hizzy overlooking Douglas. Visit Murray’s motorcycle museum, run by brothers, one owns Kate’s Cottage, great blokes.
Book next year before you set off in 21
Watch previous TT and pick spots, all are great. I’ve been since 2003 and still find new places.
Watch just one race from the grandstand, tickets available online, nothing special there but the experience. Tickets in advanced few other spots, but nothing I’d recommend. Drive circuit and find spots in advance.

I could go on for hours about Isle of Man, my dad raced in 60’s died of virus last month, going to scatter some of his ashes at Governors Bridge when we can travel over. Give him a nod when you go by.

Don’t
Just don’t expect to be anywhere else when TT is on.

My favourite site by a country mile is Peel Commissioners campsite. I have family on the Island, but prefer that site for the atmosphere and location. Peel is a quaint old town with lots of great pubs.

I've heard Glen Wylin is good but a bit of a walk to the town of Kirk Michael which really has very little in it.

Vette_1978...Fabulous. I moved there as a 2 yr old in 1970...Dad always dragged us round the Grandstand. Now I'm really looking forward to meeting you at Arbor! Your Dad must have raced a single cylinder AJS, Matchless, BSA or Norton. Black leathers, numbers on his back.

Gutted for you about your Dad, sorry for your loss. Its unbelievable what's happened with this virus.

Vincegail
I would add:
Steam train Douglas to Port Erin for the day - its part of the national transport infrastructure and is pretty cool.
Laxey Wheel
Jurby Transport museum- loads of cool cars and bikes

Peter Murrays museum is in Santon

Book to eat at L'experience in Douglas...looks st from outside but its a wow

Watch from
Cronk y voddy straight
Creg nae bar
Braddan Bridge
Quarter Bridge
Sulby Straight

For best scenic tour on roads I'll email you a guide

Dos:
Winter gear ( gets fing cold at times, especially at night)
Warm blanket
Water proofs
Radio

Don't:
Go round course on mad Sunday
Expect to ever be warm
Ever expect to get a taxi home
Bother going to Douglas on a night out, its not the epicentre for TT that it was in the megga 90s

Tickets for grandstand are purchased on line...keep an eye on the official TT website from January onwards.

Watch race 1 from Grandstand...then go free viewing for everything else.

Oh and do the Verandah (ride up from Sulby) at least once...but beware midgies in the evening

Thank you very much gentlemen, much appreciated!

Still trying to book the ferry! Hope that will succeed soon.
