All,

Was down at Le Mans this weekend to watch the motorcycle racing. I was leaving Arnage at 2pm on the Sunday and was pulled over by a group of Police motorcyclists as I was riding through the center of the village. They simply took out the breathalyser and I had to provide a breath sample. Not a word was said.

I was in the clear;

God only knows what they will be like in June when the fun starts.

You have been warned.

I too was randomly breathalized in the same manner earlier on this year at the moto 24hrs - looks like they may be clamping down.

I'm just glad they did it as I arrived and not the morning of my departure...

Am I right in thinking their limit is LESS than the UKs.
If so Beer will be a NO NO!

They were doing it last year as well on Sunday morning. There is a big problem with drink driving in France and they are clamping down on it.

Suggest if you are leaving Sunday, not to drink on Sunday at all.

Seem to remember that it isn't a road side fine but a court appearance.

Good points.

Even if leaving on Monday, watch your intake on Sunday night.

I was breathalised in 2002, the gendarmes had set up a road block in one of the small villages near Hunaudieres at about midnight on race night. I'd had a couple at lunch time but came up clear, they did exactly the same thing the following year, clearly they're after the brits driving down to view at Mulsanne

Wasn't just Brits. Saw them pull loads of French cars as well. Anyone who looked liked they'd been to the circuit. Obviously, knowing what the Brits are there for makes them an obvious target.

In 2003 we drove down to Arnage and Mulanne, and as you'll know there is a one way system in place. On the way back they had a roadblock set up and were basically stopping cars in blocks. The car in front of me was the last one in a block to be stopped.

It would be handy to know what the limit is though! Purely to try and avoid the morning after effect!

Their limit is 50mg alcohol per 100ml blood (80mg in the UK).
