Against all expectation my Elise sold this weekend with minimum hassle (only put the add up on Thursday - so thanks Ted .

Due to the fast sale I haven't sorted another motor and will clearly need one for Le Mans or i'll be going in the...... diesel 206 (cue laughter)

So what to get for le mans???? 20k ish budget and needs to be fun and semi useable (no radical unfortunately )

E39 M5?
S2000?
save up a bit - maser 3200?

something else?

R500? Is their a garage mid-way who can fit me in for a rebuild

M5 is looking good - get a bit more beer in it on the way home than the elise last year!

Class choice - not biased at all honest

Good s/h cars are available privately (Get inspected and you can't go wrong) for around 25-27k. Should be able to pick up a well looked after 2001 car for that kind of money without too much hassle.

It won't be as cheap to run as an elise(!) - I'd look to have around 2k per year to service / consumables / tyres / brakes etc

It's one hell of a car for that kind of money though, as well as been rare and gorgous looking it has the cool boomerang lights too...

I know of a couple of well looked after PH cars that might be up for sale soon - so if you're serious give me a shout.

As a said an independent inspection will let you know all you need and you'd save a serious lump compared to buying from a dealer... Same car at a dealer would retail for over 30k...

Whatever you do thoguh don't buy a cheap early one - they're usually cheap for a reason...

no question:

MCoupe

I made exactly the same move from an Elise, amazing piece of kit. Refined and comfortable, decent boot and 321BHP!

Cant go wrong with any of them methinks. R500 would be my choice, unless you like your comfort...

I like them.... I had a bit of a play trying to keep up with one through the alps, I was in an Alfa GTV. They go like stink.

Not that common either, I hardly ever see one on the road.

I believe only 630ish MCoupes were sold in the UK so they are a pretty rare site. I've had mine for 10 months and have only seen one other on the road in that time (Christmas day in fact, great blast for about 5 miles!)

The things is:-

- they have stopped depreciating
- you can still get them with an (extended) BMW warranty which covers everything
- they are faster and more exclusive than a 996 (oh and cheaper)

Really impressed so far, before buying mine i'd owned 5 cars in 18 months. No intention of selling the MC any time soon!

I think the Maserati would take too much from the ferrari pot - so I've scrated that.

What do you want a ferrari for?
They're far too common!
