Has anyone been on a Page & Moy Le Mans coach trip? It seems quite good value at £115 Though probably all fully booked by now

I notice the £115 is just for the coach, not any tickets, and you have to pay a surcharge for boarding anywhere other than Dover it seems.

With £50 ferry deals still available you could probably drive solo for less than £115.

If you can get a camping permit (on here nearer the time or on Ebay) then driving down means you get to experience a lot more.

I believe the Coach tours arrive Sat afternoon and set off Sun afternoon.

There is a lot more going on than just the race. In fact, over the years I probably watch less and less of the race. It is the whole festival of speed atmosphere that keeps me coming back. I wouldn't imagine you could experience that properly on a coach tour.

We did one of these one year, and vowed never again. You DO have to pay extra for tickets, and to join anywhere other than Dover – we all squeezed in my pug and shot down to there for early evening, dumped the car and spent the time waiting for the coach in the pub. These coaches seem to be full of proper hardcore fans who ONLY go for the race – they didn't seem to amused with a bunch of beered up blokes getting on board! Seriously, if you can be bothered to track down camping passes etc, you'll have MUCH more fun driving down, and it will probably not work out much more expensive.

If you are prepared to go on the coach trip you'd have to sleep on the coach, so you can park your own car in one of the free car parks and sleep there and be no worse off. Or better yet stroll into one of the campsites with a small tent and sleeping bag under your arm and Bob's your Uncle.

Coach trip = awful.

If you don't want to drive, go by train - you can book on-line and if you get TGV out to Le Mans its 5 hours from Waterloo.

Read a mag, drink beer and not be crammed onto a coach.

Book on-line and get some pretty good fares too.

Thanks for the replies I must admit I'd assumed the price of the entry ticket to be included!
I'll have a look at the train option - I would drive down, but wanted to take the easy option on my first visit just to check it out.

Depends where you are driving from but Calais to Le Mans is a long hall particually going back, your going to be VERRY tired. Try Portsmouth - Caen or La Harve.

You can buy ticket at carpark entrance (Blue carpark) and race entrance at the gate.

Le Mans is well sighn posted, when you get to Le Mans follow the colour arrows.

If you take your own car you can get other parts of the track IE Armarge corner, also the village is good to see a lot of classic cars with a PINT in you hand.

Hope you make it i've been going over 30 years now!!

I have a colleague who prevaricates every year about going. And yet he thinks nothing of spending £400 for a pair of grandstand tickets to that high speed parade that is F1 (Silverstone).

Just do it. Rope in a mate and book the ferry if you can. You can buy entry tickets on the door at face value. You only need a camping pass then.

Things won't be so rushed and you can mingle with around 80-100,000 like minded petrolheads.

Hi Andrew

That 944 of yours is a perfect motor to cruise down to Le Mans in! How can you even think of leaving it at home and going in a 52 seat sardine can? The Arnage/Indianapolis Friday morning meet alone will make you wish you'd brought the Porsche, let alone the drive there and back.

Agree with the comment earlier about the Calais - Le Mans route. It's a bloody long drive, especially on your own. We've done it twice and are going back on the Portsmouth - Caen route this year, which is half the drive in France compared to the Calais run.

Take the Porsche!!! See you there???

Yes I know - it's very tempting But having not been there before, let alone driven abroad, I'm a little apprehensive!

The chances of getting lost are pretty remote. Just follow some other UK-registered exotica and chances are it's heading your way!

Once you're actually there, you'll find it's much easier to get about the different areas of the circuit by car. Arnage and Mulsanne corners are a bloody long walk from the pits!

I'm probably going on the Oxfordshire run a week on Sunday. If you're there, I'll convince you then...

Hi

May have another option for you if you don't fancy taking your own car.

We’re a man down in our party, would be happy for you to join us if you like. Eight mid thirties to mid forties blokes, three cars going from Sussex on Thursday morning, returning Monday. £197 inc. crossing, camping, general admission and grandstand opposite pit exit, obviously you’d be expected to cough up for your share of petrol/tolls on top of this. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll send you the full details.

Don't worry to much about breakdowns, if you do you'l find many a friendly Brit pulling up and giving you a hand.

Many a time there over the years there has been a call out at the curcuit asking if someone has a spare ***** and it always seems to turn up, on the camp sites you would not be able to see your car for the number of people giving a hand or offering advice, suprising what some people take in their spaires box!
