Allooooooooooo
Me & mates have decided to spend the entire week in France after the race.
Either camping in one place the whole week or doing a small tour.
Can anyone here recommend any really nice campsites in the area around le mans?
I dont mind driving far for something a bit special though!

Cheers

3 years ago, we went to watch the race, then spent the second week about 30 miles from La Rochelle. Weather was awsome. If you want details of where we went, please email me.

Also, the year before, we went on an 1800 mile blast around france, stocking up on wine from loire, Chateaux-neuf du pape, Mustard from Dejon, Rhone, and finally back to Le Mans on the Thursday, for Beer before making the short journey to Le-Harve.

It was funny seeing Le Mans out of season. too

Take a trip WEST to St Joan De Mont. Beaches are great, night life, excellent camping etc.
Also do the War tour on the Cherbourg peninsula. This is awesome and humbling.

A trip up to Normandy could well be worth it and will only take you about and hour and a half.

I did this one late last year and thoroughly enjoyed Bayeux and had a look at the tapestry which despite what you might think is a phenomenal sight. A trip to the main landing sites at Omaha, Juno, Gold and Sword is one of those things that you should do if only once.

Dare I mention it once again but a trip to Deauville is superb with some top rate casino action to enjoy and Honfleur is a really charming port with some of the best eating establishments you could ever want for.

And yes Balmoral I intend to take the Deauville to Deauville

we regularly stay for the week/10 days before the race and tour around in the TVR's. To date we have stayed in;

St Malo - old walled town area is good and lots around and about (Mont St Michel etc) but camp site a little distance out of town
Samour - in the Loire Valley - again a good spot and the "champagne" (not allowed to call it that) was really good but c10% of the cost of Champagne from that region. Good campsite, very good facilities
Tours - nice town but didn't camp that year, treated ourselves to el cheapo hotel
La Rochelle - fantastic town and campsite up on the hill overlooking harbour
Honfleur - we always spend the first night at least in Honfleur eating and drinking far too much. Fabulous little town, campsite almost in the town centre but also some ok cheap hotels on the outskirts

This year we're only going for a couple of days before the race so will probably try for a hotel in Honfleur.

Hope that gives you some ideas

Arcachon/Dune de Pyla down near Bordeaux.

Good Camping, good beer and wine, huge sand dune/beach and a good outdoor go karting place about 10km down the coast.
