I'm in a bit of a head spin here. For god knows how long, I've been meaning to get round to "doing" Le Mans. After mentioning it to a mate of mine about 3-4 months ago, it seems like this will be the year.
I've read the sticky at the top of the page, but have a couple of questions anyway.....sorry!.
Essentially my mate is a pussy. He won't entertain the idea of a ferry, coz he's frightened of them. He will however have no problem with the tunnel, and then a long drive (real pain in the arse this bit, we live in Devon!). I've looked at the prices for the tunnel, over twice what it would cost on speedferries. I told him he can pay the difference. So the tunnel it must be.
We'd like to get there maybe tue/wed, set up camp, and party on till Monday morning.
Having spoken to friends who have been in the past, and reading here, it seems possible to just turn up, and buy tickets for the week on the gate. It looks like getting somewhere to camp will be the problem.
Has anyone got any advice?, particularly for campsites. Obviously we don't mind booking and paying now, and we're not expecting luxury.
In the normal course of events, I'd tell him to grow some balls or stay at home, but it will be his Ferrari 355 we'll be going in (with me insured as well ).

Thanks in advance
Phil

I had a freind like that once, terrified of flying, so he went by boat, the boat sank (a plane hit it) and as the boat hit the seabed it cracked open the tunnel.

Don't worry about admission tickets, unless you are the worrying sort that is

Camping tickets still available from some sources - I think Team Langoustine & Speed Chills both have tickets left. Neither of them force you to buy over-priced admission tickets to get one either.

Just don't get fooled into a massively overpriced ticket on eBay...you will get one nearer the time at near list or below.

Get the ferry/tunnel sorted though...can't you club your mate like they used to do to Mr T in the A Team.

There are already Beausejour camping tickets around either on here or on club arnage at face value, lots of us got BSJ rather than what we wanted, the site is a bit further out but seems to get a good press from those that have used it - i think there is a thread somewhere? Personally I wouldn't want to try just turning up and buying camping tickets on the gate - unless I was French of course...but I do hear that it can be done for a small pile of folded Euro's.....

As has been said you can buy general admittance tickets when you get there.

Enjoy!

I wished I could club/dope him. It's a pain in the arse for me, we could go from any of the south coast ports, and save loads of time. On the other hand of course, the chance to spank a 355 for miles, doesn't come round too often.
I've priced the tunnel £223 compared with £80-90 on speedferries. Having spoken to a few friends who've been, they turned up, and bought camping in parque bleue, but it would be nice to have some sort of plan.
I'm not the worrying sort, and might in fact leave him in the rarri, and go on my bike. Could do the chance to blow some cobwebs off
I've emailed a guy about camping at beausejour, but not had a response yet, anyone any idea what it's like?
One thing I REALLY intend to do, is get wellied and watch em fly past on the mulsanne straight, I'm told it's a crime not to.
Thanks for your answers
Phil

Fly him out and take his car across on the ferry yourself.

Better still put him on the flight to France then set of on a tour of the Lake District in his car.

He won't fly either
We might be going in a small group, so there will be other friends, but he is a star attraction when he's had a drink. At my wedding reception, he fell into a compost heap, then fell asleep !! That reminds me, must take the video camera.

Beausejour is a fairly chilled site compared to others – it's a bit of a walk to the 'village' but handy for porsche curves viewpoints and a shorter trip to arnage corner. It is also the only one with a pub (speedchills) on site! The Mulsanne is a bit trickier to watch from TBH – there are no actual official places to watch from, but you can go to the chinese restaurant on the the straight during qualifying and hang over the fence to see (they often have a gendarme there to stop you during the race).

Yep, Beausejour is the place to be if you're buying tickets now. Nothing wrong with the place, actually think it has a better atmosphere than Bleu 'cos it's bigger (and has a pub!).

Get admission tickets from the Carrefour in LM town when you get there - chances are you'll get group rate tickets.

If youre in devon you could come with our S west group ( Cerbs, Chims a vixen and me in a Z4 ( maybe))on the Tuesday night. If we meet in Plymouth, we could all jump him, tie him up, put him in the boot of Corins Chimaera and realease him on the other side.

As for tickets - I have just returned my allocation ( i overbooked) to Just Tickets - www.justtickets.co.uk

A complete package including 2x granstand seats and a camping pass for bleu. Call them as they might not have been sold yet. I paid 320.

Thanks for the offers Corin and obi wan.
My mate really is a wimp, and wouldn't even consider using a boat . It's almost certain we'll be at beausjour, the only crimp in my plans, is I've just started a new job . Won't be a problem though.

I'll post a bit nearer the time, would be good to meet up.

thanks

We are, there might be a few of us going.
It looks like I've been delegated to get tickets and stuff sorted out.

Is it OK to mail you?

Houx has allocated camping spots and if there are a number of you you'll probably find that one spot is not big enough to park a car and to get a couple of tents or one large tent on the spots. We struggled last year (OK the Chateau is pretty big! and were only saved by the people opposite us not showing up!) you don't have the ability to "spread" in the way you do on an unallocated site. The upside of it is that if you're getting there late in the week you're spot is saved for you so you don't have to try to find space.

Edited to add: also because Houx is allocated you can't buy a couple of tickets from different sources and camp together 'cos they'll probably be on different parts of the camp site!

I've probably got two BSJ tickets to sell at face value - just waiting for confirmation that I've got my MB one.
