Legal requirements for driving in France....

Chaps, does anyone know what the latest is on this? Do you really need triangles, fire extinguishers etc etc? Concern is that Mssr Plod pulls you over and can't do you for anything else... or worse does you for speeding and for not having the required kit! Any idea what fines they can levy for this??
