Don't bother!

They are illegal in France and just being caught with one in the car let alone having it switched on is a minimum €1000 fine.

And if they find it in the car and switched on, they'll simply take your car. Seriously, don't even think about taking one.

I can only add my total support to this one. Mine is usually hard wired into the car but I actually take the thing out for the Le Mans weekend, it just isn’t worth the bother.

Mine stays home as well. They have been getting seriously nasty about them, and it simply isn't worth the risk.

Heard nothing but good stuff about Road Angels, but do not take one with you in France, the gendarmes do not take kibndly to it..

Was wondering about the risk of taking my PDA/Sat Nav. I do have a few points of interest marked on the map rather close to some speed cameras over here but I don't think I have any for France.

I'm just concerned that with one of them plonked on the dash they might think its a detector and pull me for it.

Anyone got any experience of this?

Cheers. I know that they ought to be ok, not breaking any rules and all that, but my french isn't good enough to argue the toss about what the kit is..

Surely if you can show them a map displayed on it they will know it's a satnav based system?

the only bit they might object to is the speed readout. We had no problems with them. but we didnt get pulled over.

I have used an Ipaq and bluetooth GPS receiver in France many times, never been pulled for it or had any Police related problems with them.
