Decent Route down....
Discussion
The best route from Calais is to head down the Autoroute to Rouen.
Then take the N138 from Rouen towards Alencon.
Then you can either continue down the N138 through all the towns or take the new Autoroute.
They are building an Autoroute currently between Alencon and Rouen, so in the near future it will be Autoroute all the way... (If you wish).
Using the Autoroutes at either end will give you a bit of everything, and a journey time of approx 4hrs.

We have taken this route for the last 3 years, it's not the most interesting drive, but it is the easiest and quickest.

Andy are you doing the Dover Calias Crossing? If so what time/day?
Hi Thomas, we (there are 16 of us for '05) are going on Wednesday 15th dover/calais at 11:00.
We went on the Thursday last year, but with such a big group it was a bit of a mission finding a big enough pitch in Maison Blanche, so a day earlier this year .
Back home on Monday 20th @ 17:00 Cheers,Andy.
Last year we did the Calais, Rouen and Alencon route but this year (two cars in group) we went off-piste and travelled further South following around the outer Paris ring road (not the peripherique) then travelled west to Le Mans.
Only only saw one police car all day and that was when we got into Le Mans.
We took minor roads all the way and it was an absolute blast, a good Michelin 1:200,000 map and two-way radios are essential.
Budget around 8 hours for the journey including a relaxed lunch and beer run.
On the way back we took a similarly twisty route, but having realised we'd driven 200+ miles but only got 100 miles towards Calais we had to repent and take the piage for the remaining distance!
