tolls - no more than about £15 but I would favour the back roads as they make for a great drive and are free.

Keep it under your hat but Speed Ferries now have June 2005 on their online booking system, prices from Fifty Notes.

Cheers for that Guy - we've now booked up for 07:45 on Thursday 16th and returning at 17:30 on Monday 20th.

Better than the £110 I paid last year for the SeaCat and the £105 the year before and the best I'd found for next year was £180, so I'm a happy chappy

FYI Our costs based on two people per car will be £172.5 including ferry crossing (£50 per car), camping at Houx (£55 per car), general entrance (£55) coach to Parade du Pilote (£10) and grandstand (£60). If you can live without the grandstand you can do it for just over a ton!

Obviously petrol , a few dodgy burgers and gallons of warm beer are not included in that cost!

Re. joining the ACO.

Depends on how many of you going. Joining Club 24 costs about £50 I think but you get discount of general admission (up to 6 tickets) that covers that if there's enough of you.

Other benefits are a little bit flaky - the members enclosure is pretty good with big screen race coverage. 10% of a t-shirt...only ever taken that up once.

The little parcel that arrives in the post in September is a real joy and part of the reason I always rejoin. A pristine programme, poster, winners piccie and best of all a list of all pit movements (what car came in when, for what reason - just fantastic reading)...

Re. costs for a trip

Before the current venture, I always worked on an all cost per head of £150 for Veni Vidi Vibi - that included overnight Portsmouh ferry inc. cabin, entrance & welcome area tickets, three nights in self-catering accomodation just south of the circuit and petrol.

The main thing to work out is what you want from your trip - where you want to stay, when you want to go etc. Once you have that, the good people of the forum can collectively suggest the best prices & sources.

Come join us for cold beer & hog roast won't you though!

My Newhaven-Dieppe super seacat ticket cost me £298 this year, last year it was £230 and the year before £180 (I think). A bit of a rip off or what.

Cool!! Thanks for the heads up on the Ferry - we've booked with them too at £50 - damn sight cheaper than we paid on P&O last year! They are doing special tickets (can't remember what they called them) until the end of October so that you can book for £50 and if you need to amend the dates there is only a £10 admin charge!

Brittany Ferries are booking now, they are more expensive, but then its only a shorter drive.

My group booking for 6 cars and a big trailer was £2500, which isnt bad, as last year it was £2300 for 5 cars and trailer !!

This beats the mundain route from calais.

Shorter drive The drive is a a big part of the adventure for us, as we avoid the peage (unless we are 20 miles away with 20 minutes until the ferry leaves!) and enjoy the twisties and some detours on the way down.

That way we have one of the years best drives and avoid the police

Only problem is you miss on the other exotica driving down there

I know its a bit sad (but I was on nights and had a lot of time on my hands) last year I got all the info together on a speadsheet to find the best route including mpg, different ferry/route costs etc...
Turned out the cheapest method would have been to hire a minibus go on the Dover Calais ferry.

In the end we just did what we did the previous year, whacked it all on the credit card, tried not to worry about it too much and put our foots/feet down!

That's the way to do it...

I guess the same applies to fuel stops, as if you're hoofing it could a proper they'll be occuring pretty often so planning the locations in advance won't work.

Well the car and the van are longer than that ,but for £50 a car, I could try and book 2 car spaces !! then turn up with car and van and take up less space than 2 cars ? Fits the height so not sure why they restrict ?

£250 per person total including French beer.

Add money for eating and drinking in Arnage/Le Mans and a bit of spare change for the toilets.

Then theres the petrol costs but that comes down to how many donuts/burnouts you intend to do.
which leads on to the clutch and tyre costs etc etc
