I think most people were, as someone mentioned above, dressed noticeably less scruffily than at the main race, but I'm afraid practicality overcomes style when it's as hot as it was in 2010 !
I do think, however, that it adds a little something extra when people make a bit of an effort - to me it shows that they appreciate the event as a whole rather than just being paying customers.
Last year before the Classic we saw all about the dress code, and noticed the same as many others it wasn't really being enforced. As such many people ignored it, or so we thought.
However, this was our first Le Mans and having been to the normal 24 last year, i can definitely say everyone was much better dressed at the Classic in 2010.
I won't be wearing a blazer and tie, but i won't be in shorts and flip flops either.

I sat back to watch the reactions because I, as press, was in tshirt and shorts in 2010 as well. It is not going to be easy to enforce and I doubt they will, but the doubt lingers because today I received my press confirmation and it once again stresses that in the paddock "smart casual" is being enforced.

Is there an actual definition for smart casual otherwise I can't see how it could be enforced...The french expression is "chic décontractée", and really it means a nice polo or ocford-type shirt and trousers. However, there are many french who think that jeans fall into this category, and so the thing turns. Me, I'll be wearing lightweight cargo pants and a polo because I have around 10kgs of camera equipment on my back and around my neck, so being comfortable is paramount, as well as the fact that we have the photographer's smock-thing (forget the english word!) which I don't wear if it's hot but tuck through one of the camera bag straps.
The Classic has been trying to follow Goodwood in enforcing a dress code since 2006, but it has never worked, and I can't really see it working this year either, but then if it is enforced at least bring the right kind of gear with you. Catch 22 and all that. You know, it's the tenth year of the Classic, and it seems like yesterday it started.

Yes smart jacket and trousers so you have pockets to stash all that extra cash you'll need. Everything goes up for the Classic compared to the 24hrs event. I'm sure I had to pay 8euros for a pint of Guinness. Back to the subject. I have a picture somewhere of me standing next to a really nice open top Bristol. I was wearing an England top and shorts and I wasn't thrown out.

yep two years ago the prices were higher during the classic than the main event, but it was so hot you had no choice but to pay the extra euro
I would guess sales of champagne and fine wines are very much up on the main event also. We all have to do our bit

W"ell, the Classic is nothing to do with the ACO to start with - it's Petersport. If you go to www.lemansclassic.org and then click on "inscriptions" and then "voitures individuelles" you'll open a new window and a form to buy internal parking (if your car qualifies) and also tickets and paddock passes.lowdrag said:
